Send a review of your favourite tool. That's a little bit like asking you to pick your favourite child, son or daughter.
They're all favourites. They all save time. So I thought I'd actually probably highlight one that's less common than the rest, the DeWalt plunge saw. I find it to be brilliant. And the fact that it's cordless and battery operated is equally as powerful as an electrically operated saw.
The plunge saw, there's many uses you could care to think of. Basically it's designed so that you'll set the level of the blade, or the height of the blade, to the distance you want. And then you literally just plunge the saw down into the material you're cutting. And it's ideal for thin boards right up to thick boards.
It's also got the ability to do angles. So if you wanted to you could do up to a 45 degree angle or mitre down the timbers.
It's good, it's solid. Safety feature, you can't start it without pressing the actual deadman's trigger down. With the 5 amp 18 volt battery on it, it's quite a good strong piece of equipment.
You've also got the advantage, or the additional benefit, that you can actually put a guide onto the saw, to enable you to keep the same distance if running down a length of timber. I've used it for cutting down 2.4 metre length boards. I've also used it for cutting out the tongue and groove on floorboards.
It works, cracking piece of kit. Is there anything I could say that would probably be an advantage would be if when you can run it, was just that the safety guard was to retract. But it's nice and light, you can hold it at arm's length, if you need to. You've got the second grip to give a good cut and additional control over the unit when using it.
Other makes are available, but as most trades people tend to, have a loyalty to one manufacturer, I've been loyal and stuck with DeWalt throughout. Never found any problems with it.
It's probably something that you look at and you think, when am I going to use it. I've also got the multi tool, but both the different uses, the multi tool, you can't really get a long straight cut. Whereas with this, you can, it's almost like having a portable handheld saw, power saw, in your hands that you can use. And it really works well.
Additional dust extraction. You can attach an Hoover or suction device to remove the dust as it goes along. All in all good bit of kit. I would recommend it. I would use it.
This particular model is the DeWalt DCS571. But as I say, it's nice, it's light, it's portable. And it fits nicely into the box. Thank you.
