For wood, they're pretty good, dirt cheap compared to a metalworking clamp, so I'm a bit biased. As a result, If I haven't blown over 50 quid on a clamp, it can't be that good, so Wrong. They have a few bells and whistles, the jaws can be turned around and they will push and pull. Also, the jaws are double-ended, not worked out why yet, but I've only had them 15 years or so.
I have used them to jack a cupboard up for fixing on a wall. I've used them to pull stuff square and clamp up when glueing, even clamped straight edges when ripping. A really versatile clamp and hard-wearing if treated fairly. They don't clamp as hard as a screw clamp, not far off though. The fact they can clamp at any size without complex adjustmets is a boon. People tend to overlook the need for good clamps, I wouldn't be without them.
