DEWALT DCD796 XR Brushless Combi Drill

Had this a few yrs , very durable ,and reasonably priced , from simple in door jobs to outside ones ,requiring the hammer drill option , the name DeWalt should it's self be enough to know your buying a well constructed product with excellent reliability

Reluctantly I got one of these to try out instead of my usual Makitas. Have to say, although I didn't expect it to perform as well, it exceeded my expectations. Sturdy bit of kit and battery life was exceptional. Does mean carrying 2 chargers now though to run my Makita radio too. I think De Walt have got so much better these last few years. Nice. Still prefer Makitas though.

I have used this over and over again it has never failed me battery life is also very good the power of this drill is astonishing even drilling 2" holes that slows my bench drill down is no problem for it I love it

Great drill. I usually use other brands of bits though, like Bosch, just because they come in boxes that fit in the drills case. Nice and smooth if you add a paddle to stir paint!

Fantastic drill. Bare units available under £70 and Ive abused mine for the last 3 years and its still going strong.

Great drill for the price, have it a long time and the steel chuck is very good. Fit for anything and on of the better drills on the market at the minute.

Had mine for nearly three years now and its been brilliant have had makita and it did last a year, well built and excellent drill if I had to get another one definitely get another one

This is a fantastic light every day type drill. I will always use DeWalt products when I can.
This is easy to use and change drill bits, has a light on when in use and the battery seems to lay for ever !

Love it, been using for several years now and it’s bullet proof, just does what I ask of it. 5AH battery lasts ages, having a spare on charge means I’ve never had a situation where I’ve run out of power.

Absolutely the best combi drill I have owned! Along with the impact driver they make the perfect pair. Especially for the price nothing else i have owned comes close.

Very useful little drill. Strong motor and good features, using almoast for everything, I have it since a while and very satisfied with it. Also good for diy around the house.

I bought this after burning out my entry level drill . I'd had it for years drilling joists then it finally gave up. This feels even stronger and has a great feature of a torch. Great bit of kid .

I now have four DeWalt drills in one form or another and my son two,,I have killed one in the past but it was being used above and beyond its design capabilities , even then that was after four years,,,I highly recommend

Just brilliant. Had mine 4 years and still works like new despite all the abuse it takes. Has been dropped in wet cement, dropped from height and used everyday. Has the original 4ah battery that still last days for general use. Drains faster when drilling heavy steel but not by much. Everything is good. Not as heavy and cumbersome as the 3 gear model but also very powerful whilst still being lightweight and compact. Perfect for roofing. Can't recommend enough.

Had drill in deal with two batteries for £149 which was good value for money .Drill itself robust and has good tork only downside I found chuck works loose sometimes which can be a pain hammer action ok but tend not to use to much don't use 2ah batteries dosent last 4/5 BETTER .The drill has good balance and is a comfortable size

It’s a dewalt so build is ok, it’s nothing to sing and dance about, my personal experience with this is, it’s not up to much and I don’t use as much because apart from pilot holes it sit it’s life in the tool box, I’m not in a rush to buy another.

This is my go to cordless drill, it’s an absolute powerhouse, with the 3 speed settings and multiple torque settings it cuts through material like a hot knife, had it for a few years now and it’s never skipped a beat!

Have had dewalt for some years and always been very happy with them. This one is no exception. Just does what it should, consistently and without any fuss. Reliable they have always been and do can really recommend them.

I've had this drill around 10 months it's been ok not great I've had issue with the chuck sticking on small drill bits. Overall it's done what I need it to do but it's not set the world on fire

Great drill takes some abuse on site as well and keeps going. A lot of power in these drill as well. A right wrist snapper if you’re not careful.

This is a great little 2 speed drill/driver. Plenty of power and nice and neat weight wise. Slap a 5ah battery on it and you are away all day.

I bought this a few years ago now and it has finally given out. I used it pretty much every day. Its tough reliable and definitely value for money

Had about 2 years great drill for just about everything you can imagine lots of power and very bright light. Very comfy and easily lasts all days being brushless. Can’t fault it

Excellent drill makes a cracking job of most tasks. Never had any issues however in my opinion the Milwaukee is a better tool due to increased torque build quality and features

Very tidy, compact design. Features an adjustable light on the handle so can be easily used on darker situations such as in tight corners. Much better then the brushed motor drills, seems to have more power and doesn't want to bog down as much

Very good drill, powerful enough to do most tasks without breaking your wrist, very good value for money. Only negative point for me personally is that after two years of use, it's cracked both sides on the joint between the handle and the drill body itself... currently waiting to see if it's covered under the warranty but I'm not holding my breath.

The 796 is my go to cordless at the moment, it’s got the perfect balance between power and weight, even with a 5ah battery attached. The option to use the LED as a floodlight is always an added bonus when you’re stuck under some stairs, working on a consumer unit and your head torch dies!

My go to drill wouldnt change for anything else. Replaced my old one of 11 years with this so far impressed. Have 4mA batteries last for ages

Another great long lasting bit of kit. Just make sure to get the one with metal chuck as the cheaper options are plastic and will not stand up to the abuse of us tradesmen.

Another must have tool,had this a good few years and it’s never let me down.great for fixing holes and for speed bits as well.

Great drill, better than old one. the brushless model has more power and torque and less overheating. I am well impressed with the new brushless model

Brilliant Drill, has a good weight to it & with it being XR it has the hammer setting. Use it daily with the 5Ah Batteries and it lasts all day i love the drill and its Dewalt so its already very well made, not too expensive either for the body only.

I've had this drill for a while now. Like most of Dewalts tools, I can't fault it. Changing the drill bit is simple. The magnet on the side of the drill holds another drill bit which is handy if you are drilling a tiled wall. Changing from hammer drill to drill is simple. Changing the battery is simple, and it performs very well.

And battery lasts . All the new power tools we buy are dewalt so the battery’s are interchangeable and great storage boxes to keep them on the van

Again another great drill by dewalt, I have the brushless and the older one and there is a huuuuge difference, doesn't over heat, and feel alot more rugged than others I've used

Great drill, replace an old Bosch and has been great bit of kit with a case and other impact drill, quick charging and three batteries.

We have loads of these. Best and favourite drill. If I am out to buy a drill - it will be one of these. Good quality, long lasting, best brand by far.

Brilliant drill if it’s a tool I use a lot I always buy Dewalt they have never let me down.

Love this drill and the impact driver, thinking about acquiring a second set as they are so good, the Milwaukee I found very heavy in comparison. Especially when working above your head or using up ladders.

Brilliant drill. Only downside I’ve have two with the chuck slipping after a few months usage but both been replaced for free and 3rd time lucky no issues for last 4 months and used heavily daily

Excellent piece of kit, i had one last for four years the only reason i update was the batteries were going plus i can still use them in my tourch

I’ve tried a few brands of drills but dewalt seems to be the one that comes out top. Loads of power and with the quick charger your never without power

I have had 2 of these simply because i prefer dewalt and the old one was stolen. I have had quite a bit of trouble with the chuck on both of them. Seem to be very liable to slipping. Lets the DeWalt range down. Very good new feature of having a brightness adjustable torch on the front and the anti vibration technology.

Not the cheapest around but without doubt you get what you pay for, best batteries around.
always gone for dewalt and that won't change, just don't buy the cheap diy version and expect it to perform.

great drill, good battery life, quick charge and has many torque settings, forward and reverse and speed control. makes life very easy with this

Does everything you need it to do and comes at a very reasonable price. Had to replace my chuck after about a year as it had stopped working correctly but apart from that I’d say they’re great value for money.

Great drill, with great power. Use with 5ah batteries and the run time is excellent. The shorter projection of the drill is a big help when getting between joists for 1st fixing

Great bit of kit use it all the time! Never lets me down, it suprises me sometimes what it'll go through. Rarely get my sds out of the van

Lots of torque, surprised me to first time I used it. Favourite thing about the drill is how short it is, can fit between joists for drilling holes to route cables. Excellent work light as well. 5ah batteries last forever.

Great drill, like the impact driver I have given it some serious abuse and it's been fantastic. No signs of ageing or slowing down. Really impressed.

Great drill! The build quality is superb! I hardly get my sds out because it goes through concrete without any problems.

Great and powerful tool. Not too big either! Ever so happy with the perchace of my dewalt power tools and have never been let down by them. They can take a good beating and still perform like new.

Good wee combi drill however I had to upgrade it to the XRP model with the metal chuck as the plastic one always sticks and I have had to send that model back twice for repair. I use this nearly every day so having a reliable drill is essential.

Excellent drill really powerful and easy to handle, Well built and the 4ah batteries last a while, the magnet on the side is great for driver bits.

Got this drill as part of a set with a battery impact driver. Both are good quality and genuinely feel quality when you use them. Tough, durable and can take a bit of a battering

I have used this a lot great tool, but resently having an issue with the chuck not holding and locking the bit in properly/ not unlocking - new chuck will be fitted soon

Quality drill drive does what we want it to got enough power and battery lasts well too Value for money Body on it is quite strong but light in weight

Good value for money buying it as a bare unit and using it as a everyday drill for hanging radiators and doing light stuff with it. Highly recommended

Good light weight drill with plenty of torque behind it. As long as it's not abused then should last you a fair few years

I've had 2 of these in 2 years. Just had the 2nd one repaired. I don't give them heavy use but they seem to but not the best build quality, but i guess price reflects that when compared to some other brands. It's tough to move away when 'all in' on the batteries
