Dulux primer is a great all round primer to get you out of trouble, the only material to be careful of is MDF as sometimes there is an adhesion problem

One of the best off shelf primers you can buy. Passes the scratch test within hours with it being oil too it hides a fair few stains if you're using as a undercoat . A little bit pricey but worth it for your reputation.
