The diamond shaped blade is bevelled on one side only, allowing the flat side close contact with a straight edge or cutting guide when laying out, particularly across the grain of the wood.

I was recently advised that a marking knife was way better that carpenters pencils, or even standard pencils. They werent wrong. For fine marking out and checking tools, this thing is great. Handle is comfortable. The blade is a good strong steel that sharpens well to keep the point. Very little burring either. Think Ill struggle to consider using a pencil again. If you dont have one, get one. It will change your life.
