The IRWIN Marples M373 splitproof bevel edge wood chisels are ideal for heavy-duty use and have splitproof handles. They are made from best in category steel for improved sharpness and edge retention.
The blade, bolster and tang are forged from one piece of steel with edges bevelled to enable easier working in tight corners and they are fitted with two-tone splitproof plastic handles which will withstand heavy usage. The handle is also contoured to provide added control.

Classic and unmistakable. With the right care it’ll last a lifetime.
Split proof handles it has boasted and I’ve not split one at all.
Good steel and stays sharp, carry case is a little poor quality so a decent chisel roll is an essential purchase.
A set that you’ll want to look after, so you do.

The legendary Marples chisel with the classic red and yellow handle.
I have owned my set for 10 years and they do everything I ask of them from detailed trimming round hinges to clearing big half lap joints on wall plates. The steel is good quality but sadly the newer sets no longer carry the "Sheffield Steel" stamp (now made in China?) The handles are made out of a really tough plastic and can take a lot of abuse, there are some minor chips on the crown on my 50mm after a lot of use with a mallet.
