Review for Makita 18V Combi Drill LXT DHP453Z by D Baker Carpentry

Having got this drill / driver as part of Makita kit it’s a really handy addition for an extra drill to save changing bits over. The fact that the batteries all fit is brilliant so that you aren’t using several different types and you can add to kit as all interchangeable. Great and well price cordless drill.

Great drill to replace my old and tired combi drill. Usual array of drill settings and has a good amount of power for drilling tiles with a diamond bit. Reasonably priced all round drill from Makita.

Great little drill, not as much grunt as others I have had in the past, but still good value for the money.

Bought a cheap one as a back up, didn’t expect much from it due to the price, but it certainly keeps up with my DHP458. May not be as rugged but for drilling and screwing its not a bad bit of kit.

Got one as a freebie so can't really complain but to be honest great little work horse, can use the whole range of 18v batteries from 1amp to 6amp. The torque is adequate for most jobs as is the hammer function. Use for everything from drilling to driving as a general tool.

This is a good entry level Makita that doesn't cost the Earth but mine is still going 3 years later! Sees a good bit of action too. Obviously there is better out there, especially in the battery department, but good luck finding it as reasonably priced!

This is the first tool I bought in the LXT range about 3 years ago.I find it to be A fantastic drill I’ve never had any problems with it it’s done everything I have ever asked of it and it still going strong three years later with the original batteries. Apparently this is classed more as a DIYers drill ,I have to say for the first two years (I now use the smaller 10.8 drill Combi set as my goto) i used this drill on a daily basis and cannot recommend enough. I still load into my van daily just in case my little 10.8 can’t handle something.

A great little drill, i added this to my collection as i needed a second for one of my lads working with me. Very easy to use, reliable and not too heavy. Grip isn't too plasticy, quite comfortable.

Not Really for the tradesman this one! I bought this just to get me through when my old drill went bang and it only lasted a month or so before I had to return it! Ok for DIY-ers but that’s about it!

Site fortress safety shoe. Overall review after appropriately 11 months of wear. This shoe eliminates the need for constant replacement boots due to the additional rubberised toe cap area that as any workman will tell you wears through after afew months from constant kneeling. Great value for money and even added an insole for additional comfort. Bargain price from Screwfix for £38. Would recommend these over any standard DeWalt boots. Toe cap feature prevents buying new boots every 4 months.

I only purchased this unit as I had the batteries already and didn’t want to buy another Bosch hammer drill. Breezes through most materials and is and a great bit of kit. As with all Milwaukee it can seem expensive but it is definitely worth the money.

Great drill and reasonably priced if you can find it somewhere on offer. As with all Milwaukee tools it is built to last. Great as a multipurpose drill but does struggle if using in place of a Sds drill occasionally. Same as the driver , great for most materials but can struggle when trying to drive self tappers into thicker metals. As a one drill does all it’s a great bit of kit. I use it for my tool bag if I’m going to quick jobs that don’t require more heavy duty kit
