Now where to start this drill is a class act it’s meaty enough to drill through blue bricks with a 22mm long bit no bother the battery lasts an eternity and you have every range of torque you need. The downside is they are a bit pricy but if you get a deal and multiple things I’ve got the torch and a selection of drills and now a few batteries it all makes sense

I was surprised by the quality and capability of this drill (I got the 481), I got it as a driver drill but the hammer drill on it is very capable and will easily drill 5.5mm into brick I havnt tried larger and often leave my larger sds in the van

Really like this drill for the money it’s a quality product. Have since tested a colleagues Milwaukee and have to say it has more power packed into a smaller case than the makita. Used mine a lot for cutting 65-80mm holes and didn’t last very long before dying but suspect that to of been a faulty unit. Replaced under warranty and new unit if working just fine.

Great all rounder, good strength not too heavy. Battery 3ah lasts well but will get 5ah when I need to replace the battery. Rubber trim has come away In one place, probably due to extensive use.

Probably the best combi I have ever used. More than most will ever need. Will suit anyone from a keen DIY hero to a tradesman looking for a value drill. Couple this with a decent impact and sds and that’s ya lot.
If mine ever fails I would have no issues buying the same again.

Best cordless I’ve ever had. I used to have the baby brother to this drill until I saw a plumber with this on site.
I borrowed it for one hole and knew I had to have it.
Robust and feel great.
I couldn’t believe the difference and well worth it for the extra cost.
Great bit of kit.

This drill is great once is new I used it for one big job and when I went on for the next job within 3 weeks it started to smoke the drill was used to drill through some 2 by 6 wood it lost power completely it was send back to screw fix to be repaired and they changed Chuck, brushes, motor basically the whole drill and it made no difference so I had to return it and get the brushless one which is really really good

Another great piece to the makita kit, light and very powerful.
Wouldn't recommend using it to mix up plaster as it'll burn out. Also the metal clutch requires the odd squirt of wd 40 to free it up but that comes with site work

Great piece of kit, Makita always delivers quality tools. Gave it a 4 for features as it's rare to get the bit holder that mounts on the side, which is handy, and if you do get one they aren't up to usual quality and bits drop out after a few months use.

Always used Makita tools and have never been let down. The majority of what my combi drill does is drilling through thick plate steel and has never missed a beat. Would 100% suggest this product to anyone looking for a good universal combi drill. It is compact enough to store easily but got enough power behind it to complete large tasks. Would definitely pair with a 5 amp hour battery.

I've owned mine for about 2 years and am very impressed with it. It’s not too heavy, having that reassuring weight that suggest robustness. I’ve never had an issue with it and use it in an almost daily basis, regularly drilling through stainless steel. I use an SDS drill for the majority of my masonry drilling, but on the odd occasion where I’ve used it to drill into masonry, it’s done it without issue. All in all a sound investment.

I haven’t used a combi drill for a few years, my preferred option was an sds with a chuck adapter. I got this a few weeks back and I’m blown away by its power and (obviously) how much easier it is to carry round. What always put me off combi’s was the motors burning out too easily. It doesn’t look like that’ll be happening here, great drill!

This is the pride and joy of my tool collection, it's the only tool that I take in at night to the safety of my kitchen, it's the perfect drill, it's never let me down? It's always performed perfectly and done everything that I've asked of it, it's absolutely a must have tool, I don't bother with other impact drivers like everyone else, this is small enough for those jobs, is light weight and balance, it's solid and feels quality, I have other drills from before I got this drill, to be honest I don't even know where they are, let alone if they work anymore.

Great combi drill!! Had a few combi drills over the years but these have been the best, plenty of power to do the job with ease "and that's what you need in the trade" I use the 3ah batteries with my kit and they are fine for me as I have 7 or 8 of them so always have a spare to hand, if you haven't got the ££ to have loads of batteries or space in the van then spend a bit more and go for the 4ah or 5ah battery as these do last! My mates got a few 4 and 5ah and they last loads longer!!
In terms of standing the test of time these drills are well made,I've dropped mine, got kicked around the floor, and covered in dust, rubble and it keeps going! and the 3year warranty proves how confident Makita are in it, I've had issues with various brands of tools and Makita aftercare is second to none I've sent them tools that had broke or were not working right and they've sorted it even out of warranty! They will check out the fault and call/email you with cost to repair it! And you send it direct to Makita no approved repair agents!
Cost wise if you go out and buy a combi kit with batteries, charger etc it's not cheap! BUT if you have other Makita 18v tools then you could pick up a bare drill only and a bit of shopping around on the net will get you a Bargain!
