Review for Monument Sweatbox® by Munro Plumbing and Heating LTD

I get the purpose of the box. It's built well , it has a few good built in features and is easy to use. I've tried to get it into my van space and used it a few times but for me personally, it doesn't have a permanent home in van.

On first appearances, you ask your self the question 'Plastic Box with a blow torch' But be reassured the box is made from Polypropylene with a fire retardant compound.. I t easily hold both 15mm and 22mm pipe to enable soldering without the need for improvised and often unstable securing of pipe. The box has plenty of space to hold a blow torch in the the upright position, when not using the torch. There is also room to store solder, fluxes and fittings that you may be preparing to solder. It is bright Yellow and stands out, preventing bot losing it nd also tripping over it..
My first thoughts was its a lot of money for plastic box. But having used it and seen that its is not just standard plastic, but infact made from Fire retardant Polypropylene, i think that helps to justify the price..
I think it will enable safer and more stable soldering in the future, and looks far more professional than a make do method of holding the copper pipe. With the pipe held securely you can happily leave it yo cool without any fear of it falling over.
Overall an excellent product, as you would expect from Monument.

Love this. Got given one to test, I use it all the time. Made burning so easy as everything is together, and gripped pipes giving me the extra hand sometimes needed. Build quality is good, and survives being bumped about on transit. Not sure how I managed without it

For years I've created weird and wonderful ways of balancing pipework to sweat joints that will run properly without shifting. Bricks, blocks, large adjustables. Now I just clip them in the box and know they won't shift. I have also taken my hot kit out of my plumbing box making it lighter until I need it. Lush.

General idea is great. However, I must admit I am disappointed with the quality afforded to the price. Already had to tape the handle together as it had fallen apart. Seems like it could work but fails in my opinion

Strong carry box marking Monument's quality. A carry all burn box with strong clamp for soldering. A simple, needed idea that couldn't be simpler - carry handle and a bulldog clip for soldering. A space for everything and a safe place for your torch, flux brushes, and ancillary items like flux, cutters, cleaning cloths etc. For £35-£40 it's a very handy carryall.

Very impressed with the build quality, a very good mould and high quality plastic. Compartments for everything and the pipe clamps and silicone heat strips are simple but highly effective. Almost to the point of how hadn't this been done before! Features no other box has, down to a dedicated flux brush holder. A very well built soldering tray with lots of thought put in. Excellent value for money, another hit for Monument.

I've found this sweatbox really durable and the quality is second to none, very robust. It's even been dropped a few times accidentally with no damage. It is well laid out with some extra features like somewhere to store your blow lamp. As a gas engineer we have all been there fitting a gas hob balancing 15mm copper pipe with half inch male iron brass fitting on brand new fitted kitchen cabinet ready to be soldered. This sweatbox has two key features one is somewhere to store the blow lamp after using it with a hot tip and the second is somewhere to hold the 22 and 15mm copper pipe while soldering. The price is also very competitive.

This box is an answer to carrying a gas bottle, solder, flux fitting brushes, in fact all the dirty stuff in one container which saves messing up clean tools and keeps off the floor. The clamps for holding pipes is particularly useful for soldering, instead of having to search for something to support the pipes while sweating together. The sweatbox is very solid and should last years if its not abused too much. Good size, strong and easily carried. Only thing is I may have added a pipe rest along the handle as well. Overall it ticks a lot of boxes that others do not especially the gas bottle pocket.

My first impressions are that it is very well made and robust. You put your solder gear in and away you go, couldn't be easier. Has a nice slot that your gas bottle sits in nice and snug. Also has a clip that can hold your pipe while you solder and plenty of room for soldering accessories, pipe cutter etc. Great value for money.

I think it is really durable, well constructed and very versatile. I've used it with soldering kit and also my press gun for quick movement on the job with all the gear I needed in hand rather than carrying a couple of boxes. The compartments are well sized and I like the flux brush / pen holder. The clip in the centre had me thinking best use for either bit of a note pad or wet rag. Monument are always spot on with their tools and equipment!

Great piece of kit, strong sturdy construction. Made for the job with dedicated bottle and flux brush compartments. Love the sweat clamp especially when used in conjunction with the Dimple Press (Monument KAINN solder fitting crimp pliers). Plenty of room for cutters, crimps, bottles, torch, fittings and more. Don't do hot works? That's ok you can adapt the box to fit your press gun, cans of coke, pens etc.

Strong build quality. Doesn't burn with heat, keeps your blow lamp from combustible flooring. Only bit to improve for me is the flux holding point to keep brush clean. The pipe holding clamp has come out a few times but can be remounted allowing it to be replaced if it was damaged. Very straightforward to use and very practical. Safe and well designed tote for any heating work, which will protect you and the customer's property whilst doing hot works.

I've been using the sweatbox now for around 12 months. I use it as an install box so it carries the hand tools I need and all my soldering tools too. The clamp with the rubber heat stops help keep pipes held in place while you sweat them up. It has plenty of storage compartments to fit everything in and the bottle holder and flux brush holder are a good idea too. The pipe clamp and silicone burn protectors are spot on. Good value for money and will help you be more productive.

Thick sturdy construction with a bit of weight behind it. Gives you the confidence that it's a quality made product, not flimsy at all. Every preformed pocket/hole is instantly recognisable for what goes into them from the blow torch pocket to the flux brush hole. Love the copper tube clamps built into the middle, very handy when you need the extra pair of hands whilst pre soldering pieces before attaching to the rest of your pipework. The curved base inside each pocket is great as you know you won't get any muck lurking there that you can't quite clean. Also feels well balanced when loaded with everything where it's meant to be. Been through many sweat boxes and bags that just ended up being clutter boxes or mucky and you have to throw them away. This sweatbox has been designed to be sturdy, easily cleaned and made for the job. It will last a lot longer than any I've had before.

Very sturdy yet very lightweight. Seems to be very rugged and tough but only time can really tell, but first impressions on build quality are good. Super simple to use, compartments are all adequate sizes and the clamp is straight forward to use. It's unique really, the heat proof pipe clamps are ingenious and definitely a life saver, I normally look for a brick or prop up on my autocut. Having a place to clamp the pipes while soldering is a positive direction to move in for saving time. The box is relatively cheap and as long as it lasts a couple of years it's worth it just to keep organised.

Matty who works for me has taken mine which is the biggest recommendation. If Matty likes it that much that he says 'I'm having that' then you know its good! Decent size and decent depth to store fittings and soldering consumables. Not crammed with loads of storage compartments making it easier to use, everything we have fits nicely. The bottle / torch holder is great, it's central location stops it falling over when knocked. It's plastic which means when it gets dirty or has flux on it it can be cleaned without damaging it or you having to wait for it to dry. Very robust and has survived on site and in the van for the last 6 months so far. Plus it's bright yellow so less of a chance of leaving it on a job haha! The pipe clamp function to assist in soldering is a great addition. Gone are the days of balancing bits of copper on brinks and plaster boards. The value is excellent, simple 5 stars all round from me.

Thick moulded plastic, very strong. I have been doing a lot of site work and it has held up without any damage. The clamps get regular use and have not deteriorated. I like to be organised and this helps. I do load it up sometimes at the end of a job and it can take the weight with ease. It can obviously get dirty but can be emptied and hosed down without damage. The pipe clamps are what makes this stand out, I do quite a bit of soldering out of place and these clamps make it a doddle. I could not be without it now, so worth every penny.

This sweatbox is large enough to get everything you need in and it feels strong, the sides stay straight and don't buckle under the weight of tools and the handle is strong too. Good size, nice and deep with functional compartments for flux gas bottle flux brush ect and the pipe clamp is so good. The gas bottle holder is great to keep bottle upright and safe after soldering. You can buy cheaper but you will definitely have to keep buying as the handles will snap off with others and they're often not big enough for your needs, buy the monument sweat box and you will have a tool caddy that will last.

Hi, this is Andy Bennett from Bennett Safe Gas. And this is going to be a Tool Talk review of a new Monument tool. And it is. This is the sweat box by Monument designed by Monument Masters. And if you see inside there, it does say Made in Britain, which is what I like. A silly thing, the bottom here, little rubbers, nice little edition. I wasn't expecting that. I've seen others with it. But that's kitchen work top, which I've got here, stick it down and it's that little rubber is just going to protect those horrible, shiny surfaces that we come across. Obviously, you'll put your gas in there. This little thing here, it's only short, so that's where your flux brush goes. You can keep some fixings, tools, whatever, fittings, your solder in the bottom. It's a nice light, comfortable top to carry around. Okay. Here it is. Brilliant little design this. That clip there is to hold pipe. This here, heat-resistant rubber protects the case. I'm going to struggle here. What you do is you lift this up. I've only got short pieces. Rest your copper in there. And there you go, it's holding. Obviously, you wouldn't do it as close as that. You'd have it a bit longer. But there you go. You can show where it's rotating around and it's just holding it. Here is it at silly angle. Yeah. Pretty good. I'll just show you that it is capable. 28 ml pipe. There you go. It will hold 28. Obviously it will hold 22 as well, which I do have here. There you go. And just do a bit of soldering. Brilliant. Obviously, in here keep your fittings, whatever. The best bit, that there. This is for your gas bottle. It's sitting in there. Work around. That's going nowhere. I have had something like this for quite some years now and it's a cleaning tray. And it's similar to this, but everything just flies around. This holds it in place. Brilliant design.

Morning Tool Talk. It's Chris from Minty Property Developments. Today we're reviewing the Monument Sweatbox. Now I've never had a tool box or anything. I've normally used a bag. But this seems like a decent bit of kit, somewhere to store your gas, flux solder, plenty of room, various... It's a kit, nice big pockets. Fairly solid as well. It can take a bit of a batch. Flux's brush holder there, which is quite handy because I'm normally losing them. It's got this little clamp height as well. So this little clamp, you get a bit of copper. Handy. These are heatproof. So we can stick our copper in there, clamps it down. If we're doing a small bit of soldering, it's not going to move anywhere. It is fairly solid. I'm quite impressed with that.
Got a little bit of 28 mm copper. Will it fit? Will it fit? 28 mm copper as well. So that's very handy. Overall, it's decent bit of kit. The only issue I've found with it is probably user error, is I'll fill it and it'll get so heavy. But that's my fault, carrying all stuff around site. But no, other than that, no fear that it's going to break or snap or anything like that. So solidly built, lots of storage in it. It's a decent buy.

Hi, this is DC Plumbing and Heating, doing a review on the Monument Masters Sweatbox, kindly sent to me by Tool Talk. First impressions, pretty good. Pretty robust. Non-slip, stickers on the bottom you get with it. There's a nifty pipe clip, a 15mm and 22mm. It clicks in there, so you can do your soldering out of position and stuff off the floor.
Yeah, I quite like it. Got plenty of stuff in there. Not sure it's worth £50, but yeah, pretty good. I like it. Thank-you very much, Tool Talk.

23rd May 2022

Hi, I'm Phil from Stokes Heating. Today, we test the Monument Sweatbox. Cracking piece of kit. Got lots of storage in there for all your fittings, your cutters, burning gear, flux, whatever you need to carry. Built-in clamp goes from 15mm, maybe smaller, up to 28mm. Perfectly holds pipe, ready for your soldering. Holds that fit in there, get the job done, rather than propping it up on the floor.

Heatproof rubber stops that heat transferring in through to the box. Once you're finished with your blowtorch, straight in there, no more burning any of the carpets. It's got a built-in flux brush holder. Excellent, with loads and loads of storage for everything you might need. Thank you, Tool Talk.

12th May 2022

Hi, I'm Sean from Gas Patrol and today we're going to be doing a review on the Monument Sweatbox that was kindly sent to us by Tool Talk to review. Right. Let's get on with it. First impressions, it looks like a cleaning caddy. Take a look around. Other than that, that's the only feature that's close to being a cleaning caddy. Once you get over that, you'll actually get along with this pretty well. Now, it has a few features on that I really, really like. It's got a holder for your blow lamp. I don't know about you, but any other engineer that I know... We do have a habit of putting a blow lamp down and knocking it over, and especially if there's carpet there you're going to do some damage. Obviously a great idea to have that in there.

Also, the other handy feature that I really like is you have a locking mechanism here for soldering. You simply grab your pipe, lock it in and solder away at whatever joint you want. The only downside to this, and it's not really an overall negative, is that you can't have 15 and 22 in at the same time so if you wanted to solder a 15 pipe and a 22 at the same time you can't because it won't lock them in. Other than that, it's not really an issue. It's a really good feature to have. It's got some heat resistant pads there to stop it transferring heat. We can actually take a look at that now and heat it up and see how far the heat actually transfers across the bottom. As you can see, the pipe looks like nice and hot. Have a look at that. There is absolutely no heat transfer across the actual box itself.

That's actually really good. It seems to stick. You have a look there. It seems to stick along with these heat pads and not transfer across the box. That's really, really good, actually. Quite surprising because I thought this would melt. It's really good. What else can I say about it? Yeah, it's got a lot of storage space. Got all your cutters and glues and flux inside the box. Overall, a really good box. I really like it. There's plenty of storage and easy just to chuck your bits in, away you go. Overall, fantastic little Sweatbox. I would definitely recommend it. One other thing on this box, it was sent with a couple of black sticky back pads. Now, I believe those are for a non-slip bit on the bottom. I chucked them, so just be aware of that. When you get them, just stick them on the bottom because it will slide around the van. Other than that, fantastic. Thanks again, guys.

12th May 2022

Hi, it's Macaulay from SmartPipe Plumbing services, based in Leeds. I've been sent out the Monument Masters Sweatbox.

First initial opinions is, it looks really good. It's a bit on the large side, but it could be everything you want in a soldering box.

So, a quick run through, we've got the two large compartments at either side, we've got the main box here for putting flux, soldering, anything like that. And then you've got your gas bottle holder, which just fits in there nicely. And then you've got a flux brush holder at the front.

The main part of the box itself is actually this clamp, which will fit 15mm and 22mm copper in. It goes into there, clamps it shut, and onto this heat resistant silicone, this protects the box, which is heat-resistant plastic, it's not cheap plastic, but it's not 100%.

This is really good for when you're soldering on site, you're not burning customers' carpets, you put it in the back of the van, and you're not trying to balance it on a bit of timber or anything like that. So this idea, this clamp, 10 out of 10 for that.

Things I would adapt and change of the box is that, there's no reason, to my knowledge, why you couldn't have another flux brush holder there, or maybe pen holders, some pencil holders. Because you're always needing something to mark out pipe, so that would be good to have there.

And this back side, I think having two large storage areas like this is a bit too much, the front would probably just be enough, so I think at the back you could put maybe a lid in there with some compartments to store some copper fittings, that would really be helpful, so you're not having to carry two boxes inside, you can just carry one in there.

Other than that, really highly recommend it. Great bit of kit. I will definitely be using it going forward.

10th May 2022

Hi, I'm Stuart from Lee Key plumbers. I've been asked to review the Sweatbox. I think of it more as a soldering station, if I'm honest with you. It's actually got places where it would hold 15mm pipe nice and securely, allowing you to actually, if you place your couplings on, it will actually hold them in place so that you can solder through different angles. I do like that. It's just a neater, cleaner finish to the solder.

It also does, which you'd expect, the 22mm pipe. And again, have it nice and snug. 22mm pipe, it's obviously slightly heavier, but it's still holding extra in place where we want it to be, so I can solder around it. They're also handy places for your gas gun, your pen or flux brush, all the things you need, your solder, your flux, your cutters, and indeed, some fittings, if you needed to.

The other thing, if you needed a bit more weight or stability to it, there's nothing wrong with pouring some water in it, to give that extra weight, and also, something to cool or use in the event of a problem. On first appearances, you'll probably ask, as I did, the question, a plastic box with a gas bottle and a blow torch, it just doesn't seem to comprehend? But be reassured it's actually made from fire retardant polypropylene. And it takes away the need to make improvised holders for pipe, or we've all done it, where you've got it gripped in something or another fitting. You start to solder it. It falls over. It's hot. You can't pick it up because it's hot. This takes away that problem. And I think there's actually a health and safety benefit from it, in the fact that you probably will be reducing burns, and you could have water in there for cooling, in the event of you get any burns.

So all in all, I think, yeah, Sweatbox, I think better terminology for it would actually be a soldering station, because that, to me, is what this is. It's portable. It's light. It's solid, a solid construction. And it's rigid. And equally, it's a nice, bright colour, so you're not going to trip over it. Customers aren't going to trip over it if this is in a property, and you're not going to forget it or lose it in the dark or in the shade.

So all in all, I think it is a great idea. It really works. It looks professional. It looks more professional if you're outside using what I would call my soldering workstation, as opposed to having it trapped in gates or in different holders. And it does what it says on the tin. But I think, from a professional point of view, it's really good. I think, at the end of the day, overall, it's an excellent product, just what you would expect from Monument. And I can't fault it.

So I think it actually, when you look into it, and when you actually consider the benefits, the construction materials it's made of, then it justifies its price. So once again, I think it's a cracky piece of kit, the Sweatbox, and yeah, it will be regularly used by ourself.
