Comfortable and sharp side cutters, I’ve a few different brands and different sizes, often find myself reaching for these.
Vde grips are ergonomic and are comfortable to use stripping and cutting cables. On the smaller and slimmer size which makes them highly useable in most situations.

I used these for cutting Solar Panel spikes. These spikes are made from Stainless Steel and are 1.2mm thick. On a single job I would expect to cut approx 1200 off these. Unfortunately these cutters were not up to the job and only managed about 400. Maybe they do better on Electrical wire !

They're side cutters, so limited features that I can't really mark up (or down). They sit nicely in the hand and the large finger guards stop flesh from straying onto the metal. They feel good in both left and right hand. They were quite stiff out of the packaging and the chrome finish was covered with a sticky layer of ?? gunk (maybe that's for transit from the factory), but a drop of 3 in 1 oil and a wipe with a rag sorted that out. The cutting blades are sharp and close with a satisfying "clunk"; they cut through wire and pcv with ease. All in all a quality tool that looks and feel well made.

Hi, I'm Gareth from Udell Electrical Services. Tool Talk Expert Trades have sent us a couple of items to review. One of them is the Wiha electricians side cutters. Their model number is just there and they're a general side cutter, but they also do have a 2.5 cutter and a 1.5 mil cutter in the actual blades. So the idea behind that obviously is that there are a generic sort of side cutters that you would use as an electrician. So you can sort of cut cables like that. And then with this being a piece of 2.5, you can then strip it. So you use the 2.5 hole and you can strip it in there like that and it strips it. And I've got a piece of 1.5 down here somewhere, 1.5 just to prove that the 1.5 works. 1.5 again, just cut it in the thing and then you can strip it just like that.
I have to say they're really nice to hold, are really comfy with the sort of rubberized grips that they've got. Again, with it being a Wiha tool, they are really well made. I've been using these for a few weeks and they're actually really comfortable and easy to use. The one drawback that I have found that is just, I don't know whether it's just me or whether it would affect other electricians, it's just that I've always used sort of side cutters like these to strip to an air, sort of cut down the middle and then sort of pull the earth wire out to strip it. But what I've found is that because it's got the two holes there for the 1.5 and the 2.5, it doesn't actually cut all the way down. So then when you try and then strip it, it hasn't sort of cut it properly. Whereas a normal set of side cutters that has got that cutting all the way down to the edge would actually cut it.
So they're not particularly great for that. And if I've had jobs, I've used my old CK side cutters that I've got, that I've had for a few years. But overall these are pretty good. I can kind of see what they're getting at with the cutters. I don't know realistically though, how much you would actually use them. It does give you a guide and it does mean that if you put a piece of 2.5 in that hole and use it to strip it, you're not going to actually accidentally nick the copper, which is a big no-no. What you can end up doing, just using a normal pair of side cutters is you can sort of pull the insulation off, but I don't know if you can see that, you can then end up nicking the copper, which then obviously reduces the size of the copper. But in general, I have to say pretty impressive and always like Wiha tools. Again, I'll keep these in my toolbox. I have been using them, but in general I'll probably go back to my standard side cutters.
Hi, I'm Phil from Stokes Heating. Today we're doing a review on the Wiha electric cutters. They've got the little cut-outs for 1.5mil and 2.5mil cable. Works really easy. I normally only do in the wiring centres so not really stripping 2.5 mil cable, but for the 0.75 and anything else it's really good. As with Wiha clippers, quality cutters, nice easy to use, nice mechanism. Thank you ToolTalk for sending them to be review.
Hi, guys. I just want to do a quick review on these Wiha Professional Electric 100-volt cutters that I've got here. I haven't used them yet. I've just got them now.
It's a lovely feel. It actually fit really nice in your hand there. They're 160mm. So you have nice hand fitment there. The handle is nice and soft. It's got a nice grip. No slippage there or anything.
I'm just going to see how these cut. I've got a bit of cable here that I normally use for control boards and cabinets and stuff. I suspect that it's going to go through that nice and easy. Here we go. Oh, yeah, absolutely perfect. I've got no issue there cutting through them at all. See, lovely and good. I've got a standard 2.5 Twin and Earth here. Let's go and that goes through that lovely as well. I haven't got to put much effort in there at all. Next, I've got a bit of this 3 Core with Earth. A little bit more effort on those, but no issues at all. They are a lovely piece of equipment. I think I'll be putting those in my tool bag and yeah, there we go. A lovely piece of equipment to have in your tool bag.
