Definitely full of fake leads, I believe my builder just buy SIM cards put fake jobs on then bin the sim after a week or so of putting fake leads on their site, I’ve had countless jobs where I can get no answer from the supposedly client no matter how many times I ring, then eventually after a few weeks the number goes deadline, while reading some of the other reviews on here I noticed a review where the tradesman had the exact same experience as myself, I was shortlisted struggled to get hold of the apparent client only to be told when I did get through that there had been a family tragedy and they didn’t now want the work done right now, I rang that same person back months later and they slipped up initial at the start of the conversation and she's couldn't remember the family tragedy, if was her husband dying apparently, strange you wouldn’t remember your husband just dropping dead one day, if you email my builder regarding any of these issues you are meet with rude, abrupt and the worst customer service I’ve ever come across, they need reporting to trading standards

Im a tradesman and if any other companies are looking to use them then don't. They sell you fake leads. If you do eventually get a real lead then you'll have to do the job for free otherwise you wont win it. Full of cowboys and unregistered businesses with no insurance.

Avoid. This company are ruining the trades and traders are allowing it. Many customers are unaware of the extortionate prices they charge for leads. Building up reviews will cost you hundreds to thousands of wasted pounds. They also never give you your lead money back when you are shortlisted but the customer after shortlisting you never asks you round for an actual quote! The problem is customers use multiple websites to find ultra cheap traders so your chances of even getting through the door for a quote is very slim let alone getting the job. These sites have put major pressure on many traders and forced them under. If traders stuck together we could bring the prices down. It’s insane. You pay £50 quid for a lead to paint 4 rooms for example. A joke.

My Builder is an absolute rip off. Too many non serious enquiries, yet you still have to pay for the lead! I expressed an interest in 3 jobs, me the customer changed his mind but I still had to pay £30+ VAT, another made arrangements to drop off some materials, they never showed and failed to answer emails or phone calls, I still had to pay £7 (ish), the final one was obvious that they already the kitchen fitted lined up to do it but they wanted another quote for insurance approval, this also cost me £30+ VAT. Cheers!!!!

I had a lead on my builder and they customer gave me her number via messages in there site. She the customer told me she was speaking with another 4 trades about the work and will decide who gets it on the cheapest quote which is fair enough. NOW my builder tells me I have to pay £40 for the lead. So they have made £200 and no one has been guaranteed the work. I will not be paying them they can take me to court as I’m sure the judge will laugh and throw it out of court. Just curious to see if this has happened to anyone else

I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION ,ALONG WITH OTHERS THAT THIS COMPANY [MY BUILDER .COM] SHOULD BE REPORTED TO TRADING STANDARDS . I HAVE PAID FOR SEVERAL BOGUS [IN MY OPINION] LEADS, WITH NO CHANCE OF A REFUND . THIS COMPANY HAS NO TELEPHONE NUMBER TO MAKE A COMPLAINT , THE CEO IS NOT INTERESTED, ONLY INTERESTED IN MONEY . WHAT MY BUILDER DONT REALISE IS THAT US TRADESMEN PAY THERE WAGES . MY BUILDER HAVE OVER THE YEARS GOT GREEDY , THEY ALLOW 5 TRADES TO BE SHORTLISTED .SO THE TRADESMEN ONLY HAVE A 1 IN 5 CHANCE OF GETTING THE JOB . Shocking, rip-off, money grabbing cretins !

I got shortlisted for a job for a £30 fee, I was shortlisted at 8pm, I noticed the shortlist at 10pm (can’t call a customer then) Called customer at 9am the next day, no answer. Figured they were at work and I would call in the evening on the same day, before I got the chance the customer messaged me on my builder app saying sorry but “there’s been a family tragedy so they don’t want the work doing now” Asked my builder to waive the shortlist fees…….apparently that’s not in their policy, although it does state that if the customer cancels the job within 24hrs of being shortlisted.
I’ve now looked further into my builder and have seen this EXACT and I mean EXACT as in word for word thing happen to countless other traders…..suspicious! I’ve also read of countless fake leads appearing where no body shortlisted can get hold of the customer…..then a week later the same job appears and guess what the same phone number, again no response from said number !
Fake leads, ZERO chance of a refund even when the customer messages on the app and my builder can see the message declining before you’ve had a chance to quote.
Trust me my tradesman counterparts AVOID and pay a bit for for check a trade or anyone other MYBUILDER rip off ! Rant over

Went self employed over christmas, looked into mybuilder to find a couple jobs here and there.. Had a couple of decent jobs completed, a lot of shortlists which didn't come off, I suspect due to customers having unrealistic expectations as to the cost of things..

The real kick to the teeth came when I got shortlisted for a job, text the customer, heard nothing. Ring; nothing. Email via mybuilder and finally get a reply; "we've changed our mind, we don't want it doing any more.."

Good luck trying to get a refund from this bunch of money grabbing bustards. On a site that has builders bending over backwards for positive reviews from unreasonable customers, the have a total disregard for their customers feedback.

I just wish mybuilder was subjected to their own review system from their paying customers.. doubt anyone would shortlist them..

Absolute joke the way the shortlist fees are calculated. £10 + vat to quote for a 3.5 square metre hall floor and I had to be competitive in my quote or I’d have been unrealistic. By the time I’ve visited the property to look at the floor, worked out the quote in my own time, driven to the material supplier and the completed the work I made a grand total of about £80. It’s just simply not worth it. You have gardeners and carpenters showing interest in tiling jobs and the competition is too much. There are also useless unskilled tradesmen quoting pennies to do work who win the job and then mess it up, then I get an invite from the job poster to come and out it right, so I’m being charged 2 lots of shortlist fees if I express interest in it. Mybuilder don’t care at all, the only thing they want is your money. Horrible company that you should avoid.

Well I have just started a MyBuilder account and profile, and you guessed it! I have now realised that you have to pay them only if your are shortlisted on the front cover this seems a good deal, However! if you show interest in a job and then so does 3,4,5,6 etc does and the customer who is looking for someone (who none of them are told that every time they shortlist a builder they have to pay the shortlist fee!) all of a sudden you can find that you have worked 1 or 2 days for nothing as the shortlist fee grows and you are not winning the jobs, I have had 3 customers now that have shortlisted 4 or more of us, This should only be charged to the builder if they win the job NOT FOR JUST BEING GIVEN A CONTACT! which I am now starting to realise not all of the customers are either nice or genuine if you get my meaning, last customer when asked for job details gave even less information via text than was on their mybuilder post, HOW THE HELL CAN YOU GIVE A TRUE QUOTE WHEN YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOUR QUOTING FOR MY BUILDER??

What a disgusting company.
I've started a new business and decided to use their "services" to get some jobs since registration was free. I kept thinking I only had to pay if I pressed the shortlist button to jump the queue, but that's not the case. You get charged everytime someone decides to shortlist you. So I ended up receiving an invoice and now I have to pay £149? For what? I didn't get a single job out of them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. DISGUSTING AND CRIMINAL.

Might be good for customers but bad for trades, especially gardeners. The rates for shortlist fees seem to be really skewed based on a few different things the customer selects about the job, regardless of what they want when you actually turn up. Costs for leads are not refunded even when no one is hired, and I think it would be easy for the company to just create fake accounts and fake jobs to cream off the shortlist fees then abandon the leads because their refund policy is insanely strict. Even if you've been the only person interested and shortlisted for a job which then gets cancelled they refuse to refund. Avoid if possible, they only care about money, not about honest traders doing good work.

My builders, well the problem is you have to pay for leads, so i believe three people can buy the lead, but problem is if you don't get the job, then you just wasted your money, and if this happens on a few occasions then you can imagine how much money you loose. So it's such an expensive way to get jobs in. So we do not do it anymore as it started to cost us alot off money and not win jobs.

When I first opened on my own, mybuilder helped me to build my business and was a good source of work.
Once they started advertising on TV it went severely downhill, checks on contractors must have been poor and anyone allowed to join and apply for all jobs. Diy daves underpricing jobs.
Customers became bargain hunters only wanting the cheapest over quality.
The pricing for job leads has become extortionate and too many contractors allowed to quote for a lead which means you get to pay for nothing.

Review for MyBuilder by Cavendish Electrical Services
2nd February 2022

I see some bad reviews here for MyBuilder but for me, it has built up my business considerably. I prefer this business model, where you choose which jobs you are interested in, rather than have people contact you out of the blue for a job that you may not be interested in. When a (potential) customer shortlists you, you are charged. I have paid for more leads for jobs I did not win than jobs I did, but that is immaterial if you are charging jobs to cover all your costs. As I am a nice chap who gets on with people easily, I have gained loads of additional work from customers who I have done a good initial job for, and they refer me to friends, so to my mind it is worth every penny. Go for the smaller jobs first to get some feedback before going for the bigger ones. I have found customer service to be very quick in replying when I have had to get in touch. One word of warning however - the layout design of the app makes it easy to accidentally mark a job as one you are interested in, which can lead to a shortlist which of course you are charged for. Typical fees are £4.50 + vat for changing a light fitting to £31 + vat for a total rewire, so can be expensive if you dont get the job (there are normally 3 or more interested in a rewire for example). As you do not have to buy credits up front to use the service, it is effectively a pay as you go affair so give it a try!

I hear good things about My Builder and often retry it now and then to try and convince myself but in reality you are going to pay for a phone number for a customer that either just window shopping or you are competing against other trades that seem to work for next to nothing. I certainly wouldnt use a tradesman from here for my own home and not because you are going to get a rogue trader but I know they do not vet their trades, whilst I was a member I sent a simple email requesting to be advertised in other specialist areas, the only way they vetted me was by answering some multiple choice questions in that subject

I guess if you were on this at the start of it you have some reviews built up and this makes it easier to win the jobs. Trying to get a start now is very difficult. There are usually quite a few shortlisted for every job in my sector.
If you see a job that doesn’t have a shortlist it probably means the customer has had loads of interest and hasn’t got round to shortlisting yet. With no or very few ratings it can be hard to make the shortlist or if you do get shortlisted you will need to be considerably cheaper than the tradesmen with a lot of reviews and due to there being so much competition price wise it’s sort of a race to the bottom with in my view some insanely low prices being quoted to win the job. Obviously if you get shortlisted you pay even if when you call the customer they say they decided to go with another guy called first without even seeing you. It doesn’t work for me but I do know people who do ok from it in other sectors

I was shortlisted for a high value job, customer didn't respond and mybuilder still wanted their pound of flesh! I refuse to pay for an unresponsive lead.
The shorlisting feature is unrestricted in as far as the customer can shortlist as many tradesmen as they like, leaving sometimes 7 or 8 tradesmen fighting for one job. Meanwhile Mybuilder are raking in the cash from each lead. This business is based on greed and there is no loyalty or regard for the tradesmen. I have now signed up with Checkatrade and am extremely happy with the service.

Every time I spoke to customer services they’ve been good to me (apart from the hard sale).

The problem I have (for example an EICR) is I have all the correct insurances, qualifications and experience in place, I will be placing an estimate next to someone who does not and will be cheaper due to this .

Because of the MyBuilder branding the customer thinks everyone has the correct qualifications et cetera to do their job. So I find lose the work to the non-qualified and incorrectly insured cowboy.

Review for MyBuilder by A J Redgate Carpentry

I first starting using my builder when I first went self employed, hard to get into Carpentry at an older age, no one to give you a chance so started doing domestic work on my own. Anyway it can be expensive and there are a lot of customers that have champagne taste but lemonade money.

I never reduce my cost and so have done pretty well out of it but you have to be careful selecting the customer. I have completed about 30 jobs on my builder but have probably paid for 60-70 leads.

I may have been lucky but the jobs I have won I have done very well out of and have many referrals from the work that I have done. More often then not I usually get 1-2 more jobs out of it.

One customer gave me a whole years worth of work. About £30,000 from just a an initial £10 lead. So it can work out well.

Lowest price wins or the first person to get to the job. If you have more than a days work in front of you then don't bother. They attract startups so there is alway new competition supplying their services for minimum wage. You pay for the lead if you get shortlisted and don't tell the job poster those details so, they shortlist you for advice and move on to the cheapest quote.

Awful. I was a member when I first started out as self employed but thought the whole concept was flawed. Customers assign a value to a job. Love hate relationship with mybuilder. Got a lot of work through them but the while way they do business is underhand and sneaky. The homeowners don't even realise that we are paying for leads they really ram it down the homeowners throat to invite as many trades to quote as possible for more money in shortlist fees. There are far to many competitors on mybuilder send prices plummeting. The one thing that used to be good was that if you had lots.of good reviews this was made clear to the potential customer and you had more chance of being shortlisted recently I have noticed that on when you express intrested the only thing that comes up is 100% feedback. So basically someone could have 1 job on there and show the same 100% feedback as me with 35. 35 100% feedback is far harder to achieve than 1 100% feedback. Just another con so the homeowner shortlists more people and lines the directors pocket.

My god you end up spending a lot of money for little gain with if you're not careful. Timewasters, false leads, customers who don't even contact you back even tho they've shortlisted you, people who expect something for nothing, the list goes on.

If you need the work it can work ok i guess. I tried it out as I saw a couple of interesting leads to start off. In the end I knocked out on the head as it can be very expensive, especially if you don't really need the work.

Be wary that they offer no refunds so when you think you have been duped there is no way of getting your money back. It's certainly making someone a lot of money who isn't actually doing the work.

We only use this to fill in gaps in our diary. Therefore are quite choosy about what leads we pay for. All in we have found it to be better than rated people as less time wasters

I've found these pretty bad to use compared to rated people.

Tons of marketing emails. Bad leads. Tons of competition.

Not great.

I have posted interest in many jobs, but others may have done a lot of work through them, I have never had a single job out of it.I suspect the jobs posted have been previously quoted for, because a lot of the posts seem very well informed, for Joe public, so they are looking for a rock bottom price.Others post crap so more info is needed to accept the inquiry , so another waste of time. A bit like fishing with a grenade, except you dropping money instead of grenades.

This company sounds worse than rated people.

WHY do you, the members GIVE them YOUR money.

All these companies are a waste of time and want your money, so yes they will sell the lead 3 times and not give a refund.

I once had a boiler lead company ring me asking for money for a lead, I never even had it.

Just won't entertain any of these companies that want paying for things

Don't bother guys!!!!
You purchase leads that have been priced by someone who has no idea what the job involves !
So a simple re plumb of a shower could be put in the price bracket of a bathroom refurb! That will set you back over £20 + vat,
You basically put your name forward to quote on the job if your chosen you get get charged the fee, this is ok if only you are chosen and get the job, if as is usually the case 3-5 company's are chosen they are all charged the fee! No matter who gets the job.
Some leads are not real leads the customer just wants an idea of the cost of a job so you will be charged the fee if your chosen and there is no job!! You get billed weekly and it can soon run up!
Beware of false requests too, as they sometimes send you emails saying a job poster has seen your profile and would like you to quote i.e. Put your name in the hat to be chosen, this is usually just someone attaching local jobs to you or computer generated going to local tradesmen.

I use this site and have only had minor problems with job leads, the customer service could be better as sometimes the leads are a waste of money or a wrong description or higher spec has been given.. when questioned for lead money returned the reply is...' we are cheaper than other lead based sites so out lead costs aren't refunded as we don't take a quarterly payment either.'... so beware and be choosy when purchasing leads.

MyBuilder used to be ok when it first set up. You were invoiced after you completed the work. Trouble is when it became popular, they changed it to buying the lead info. That can mean paying for the pleasure of customers getting an idea of the cost only to decide to scrap their plans

Not a good site, along with any pay per lead site. Tradesmen are left wide open to abuse from customers shortlisting them just to get a quote with no intention of using them. No support from mybuilder for tradesmen as they always side with the job posters.

at first it is a promising website.. good for a new starter looking to get there customer Base off the ground. some of the pricing per lead is unrealistic. also the comment side can be very harsh on businesses. I think before negative or neutral or positive feedback is left I think there should be a 3 to 5 day cooling off period before it goes on the account so if it's bad or neutral it gives the traders time to fix any problems or make amends anything that could be wrong , rather than just go straight onto profile

Mybuilder should only be used as a stop gap to fill in some gaps in your working week. I have obtained some very good return custom from the site but feel it wouldn't necessarily fit all trades ie heating engineers as most I've seen only want quotes.

Does provide you with genuine leads but prices have shot up recently and there also seems to be a lot of new members all fighting for the same work and undercutting each other. Good at navigating and has some good features. If you need to use a lead generating site for the least amount of money (that will cruelly give you viable leads) this is useful.

Never used my builder and looking for new ways to drum up some work. Reviews aren’t good but they look like they are mainly from a while ago. Anyone using my builder ? How you getting on with it

Answered on 24th September 2020 by A Royal Flush Plumbing

They are a nightmare. The company themselves dont care about trades at all money is all they want. Peopel want job done for pennies and mybuilder have some weird view on what rate job should be charged at. Avoid them

Answered on 24th September 2020 by Sandwich electrical

I've used mybuilder for a while as an electrician. It took quite a while to get a lead as customers don't seem to like tradespeople with no or few reviews. But once I got going, I found it to be quite successful. The best part about it, once you meet the customer and they like you, you'll get repeat custom from them as well as recommendations through word of mouth. All for free. You may have to accept spending and losing a bit of money at the start but persistence will pay off. **Top tip, go for the small jobs where the lead doesn't cost too much. Get a few good reviews before chasing the big leads so you have the reviews to back you up.
