Review for 87 00 100 KNIPEX Cobra® XS Pipe Wrench and Water Pump Pliers by J.C.O Plumbing and Gas

I have had the cobra X's grips for a good few months now I find the build quality to be great and there very small a can easily be kept as a pocket tool.

The problem I have with them is that I have had very little reason to use them. I do alot of boiler repairs/ installs, gas and heating works and I can honestly say I've had very little reason to use them.

As they are so small if your attempting to undo a nut you can't really get any leverage on them.

When I have used them it's been on drain points on boilers and in hard to reach places on heating pipework.

Overall the product is well made and can come in handy occasionally but overall I can't see them being a tool that a gas/ heating engineer needs in his tool box.

I have used these mini wrench for bleeding radiators and for gripping In tight places
I did try and use them to hold a 22mm nut but with no grip strength in them the nut moved

Using them on smaller applications maybe okay but them honestly look like something that comes out of a premium Christmas cracker than a tool you would have in your tool box

A plumber I work with uses his for bleeding down systems and radiators and I asked his opinion and he said it is okay for small nuts but anything bigger than 10mm and you would struggle

I have seen these as much as 25 pounds but I would rather spend my money on a larger set of pliers or pipe wrench
If they were sub 10 pounds them I might buy them but they are so small you might loose them as I did

So I have given these a good run in over the past couple of weeks.
While not an every day set I have been using them where ever possible to really get a feel for how much they can do.

The build quality is a little disappointing. The slip style locking works well and locks in positively and the materials are great quality and strong,
However the jaws do not line up and have an offset to them that is not what you would expect from a premium manufacturer.

That being said, they are incredibly capable, they will handle gripping and turning anything you can get them around, a very wide opening, assuming you have the strength with the reduced leverage.

An ideal pocket tool for a quick tighten up of a nut here and there, leaking radiator valve, swa gland even used to tighten a few bolts on the racking that were coming loose. A good tool of convenience.

OK, guys, I've got the KNIPEX mini grips, which Harrison has nicely sent me out. I'll have look now and see what kind of grip they can get when you've got a tiny little space to get into. So, it's in there. Surprising, for the size of them, they've got quite a bit of leverage on them.

So yeah these seem to be quite good. I don't know if I want to be using them on chrome nuts because they're a bit sharp. I don't know if you can see that. A bit sharp on the teeth, which gives you a great grip, but absolutely destroys the chrome nuts, as you can see.

But yeah, good little tool. It'll stay in my pocket so it can be used all the time. My verdict is a thumbs up. But be careful what you use them on. Cheers, guys.

Hi, I'm Phil from Stokes Heating. First of all, I'd like to thank Tool Talk for sending me the Knipex Cobra Pump Pliers. They're the extra-small version, and I mean tiny. When they first sent them through I thought someone was having me on, but they're really good pliers. The mechanism on them, it's just spot on for each tooth. It goes up to over 15mm nuts easy, and they're great for inside fires. The Oxy assembly change with these, it's just spot on. It couldn't get any better. As with Knipex, the mechanisms are all perfect with them. You can't ask for anything better, and it just clicks straight through to wherever you need to be. Thank you, Tool Talk.
