Makita DGA456Z 18V Brushless Cordless Angle Grinder

As usual another solid performer on the platform and i geuss standered now on most cordless grinders is the cut out when the blade gets snagged which always makes your heart skip a beat when using corded grinders that dont have that feature. Well priced aswell for brushless.

Solid grinder, variable speed control is very helpful when mitring tiles. When using on masonry it can drain batteries quickly but usually keeps the power constant unless really pushing it.

Great bit of kit I use it at least once a week for work love it easy to change cutting disks great value for the price I think it would of been better if it came in some sort of case

amazing bit of kit for me , does everything u need with a 1.2mm blade cuts through everything I come across daily , and the battery life isn’t to bad using a 5ah battery

Great bit of kit . Gets seriously abused at work , but has not given up yet . My only issue I the switch can get a bit difficult to use when dusty

This grinder is spot on. I use this often for cutting down tiles abs it works great. Powerful, lightweight and compact. Handy little grinder for anyone looking for one.

Borrowed this off a colleague before having my own Milwaukee version, it’s just as good as the Milwaukee grinder. Great for all electrical work.

Great grinder. Not much difference between all the Makita 18v grinders really. Some people like to undo the top 4 screws abs twist the head 180 degrees as the switch is in a better position this way.

This grinder is very powerful being brushless. It also takes slightly bigger 125mm discs than other grinders of this size on the market usually taking 115mm discs. I use this to cut all sorts from metals trying plastic pipe.

Top quality tool, light weight tool nice a compact with good punch. These have the capabilities to cut through most surfaces. Would highly recommend 10/10

Food piece of kit but wish they made a model for x lock blades for quick change. Unscrewing the nut can be a pain at times when full of debris but other than that a great tool and much better than the non brushless version

Very useful bit of kit, use it everyday, be it for cutting wood, metal or plastic. Goes on for ages on a 3ah battery and quick charge in 30mins if you need to use it for a prolonged period.

Probably the best 18v angle grinder on the market, bought it as a body only as already have batteries so this was good value for money, it is a good competitor for the 240v grinders

Another quality addition to my tool kit. This grinder is nice and lightweight but still has the power behind it achieve the same levels as the 240/110v. The electronic brake is a nice safety feature too

This is a very handy tool to have very trustworthy and never had any problems with it cuts threw metal stone exsetra like butter never had a thing to stuff that this wud not go through with the right blade on ofcourse

An excellent piece of kit and a welcome addition to the the tool kit. Very light in the hand but at the same time very tough. Battery run time is excellent as well.

Good grinder cuts through 1/2 inch rebarb like it’s nothing and best of all the discs aren’t very expensive however you will go through a lot discs due to there small nature I wouldn’t cut anything bigger than 1/2 inch as the blade go to quickly then

The only reason ive given four not five stars is that i have this modle and its big brother and the other modle is just better in the hand feels stronger and safer

Took me a bit of getting used to having owned a brush model for over 15 years but i can not fault this tool it gets so much abuse and use yet never lets me down build quality is good and a valued addition to my makita arsenal

Never let me down and saved the day a few times. Battery life is alot better than my old brushed one. Only let down is the locking nut rusts easily.

I use it with Makita's dust shroud and quality blades for chasing channels in brick, render and plaster. Fitted with diamond rack for pointing takes a couple of passes to get good depth. Spot on tool. Haven't found any limitations yet.

Great grinder very comfortable to use can clearly see what you are cutting good strong load speed good safety cut off if overload cut holds a strong charge when used with a 5amp battery

Hi Bought this a while ago and I use it pretty much every day. It's cheap to buy and it's got so much power behind it. I can't recommend it enough.

Perfect cordless angle grinder. I don’t use it that often but when I do I couldn’t ask for any more. Really powerful when using a 5ah battery and fits in my hand well so comfortable to use.

Upgraded to this from the brushed variety

A superbly balanced and powerful. And the brake is very effective.

Having used a variety of brands I found the hitachi very unbalanced. Unlike makita which are easily used in one hand.

Absolutely solid piece of kit, purchased after my last grinder gave up the ghost, after replacing the brush’s several times the motor finally gave in, I work the grinder hard, but couldn’t be without it

Deliberated long and hard whether to buy or not as I had used the 1st version and was greatly disappointed with it but what a transformation this one is would highly recommend this , one gripe I have is why can’t we get an sds fitting version

Got it bare to go with my Makita set. the battery indicator works well. is quite weighty, but that works for me. The handle changes easily, but fastens tight & well.

I find the Makita gear great value I wouldn’t be without my grinder these day such not had it to long yet but build quality seems to be pretty good so hopefully will last a while.

Makita tools at there best. Does exactly what is need of it, although can chew through batteries and blades if your pushing it to hard. It has been used to cut boiler flues, concrete ridged roof tiles, light steel framing and a number of old radiators. Fits nicely into the Makita range of stackable boxes.

Great bit of kit, mainly use it to cut flues. Blades seem to last well and it doesn't hammer the battery. It's well balanced and reasonably light, definitely worth having in the van.

This bit of kit has saved me so much time since I purchased it whether using diamond cutting disc or metal cutting if is outstanding. Great value for money and compatible with my lxt batteries

The Makita 18volt brushless angle grinder is a gem to use. So versatile and the grinder blades are so easy to change. Depending on the materials you are cutting the blades do last along time. Couldn’t manage without one.

Cracking bit of kit. Powerful and easy to use. Quality made product. Locking switch with quick on/off feature. A must have on the van.

Great to use and can be stored away in tool boxes and bags, great to keep in the van. Would even be handy for use at home when needed.

Upgraded to the brushless model earlier this year after having the original one for a few years, good upgrade lots more power and batteries last a bit longer, the speed adjustment is a good feature if cutting tiles you can take it nice and slow and get a neater cut, overall good bit of kit and a good addition to the tool bag!

I've owned my grinder for about 3 years now. Really easy to use and lightweight. I find myself using this so much more than I ever thought I would.

Good tool, good quality, used mainly for cutting stell rod and rod, but also cut through concrete and slabs with it, goes through lower ah batteries in no time so if using for a while have to make sure you have a few fully charged batteries, but im guessing this is a problem with most cordless grinders

I have the lot version to go with the rest of my kit. Not had any issues up to now does everything it’s supposed to do. Great little grinder.

I’ve only had my cordless grinder for couple of months and it’s paid for itself within couple of weeks, is a great piece of kit and use it all the time on every boiler install for cutting flue down

Brilliant bit of kit and good power too, use ours for cutting metal with the thin blades and cutting tiles with the rubi blade in, makes everything much quicker and easier

Incredible bit of kit. Good on battery use, packs a lot of power and has a nice trigger control and location. Downside is the guard is horrible to adjust

I bought this grinder to stop tripping over cables. But now I use this grinder most days very rarely use grinders with cables now, in the process of buying another one and 5amp batteries for both.

I bought this due to getting fed up of getting extension leads and transformers out for little jobs on roofs. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it performed and couldn't be without it now and seem to use it for more things than I ever did a corded grinder. It has plenty of power for most duties and very good battery life when used with a 5amp battery.

Light weight ,easy to use. The battery last long enough to do most jobs I need it for.

Great little grinder, been used and abused from channeling to flues, drains the batteries quite quickly but that just highlights its power, if you take on more than it can chew it will cut out until you flick the trigger on/off diving you from doing any damage to the grinder.

Love this tool really good cutting flues I don’t use it for any heavey work really so my review isn’t really pushing the limits of my tool, had few years now still going strong would recommend

Good bit of kit. used it for cutting angle iron, stainless cooker hood chimney, concrete and my favourite....... tiles.

Had an old 240 makita one had it for years , then thought get 18 volt . Brilliant wish bought one a lot sooner so easy to use quality was brilliant love makita lot is the best , wish price could be a bit kinder to us . But well worth it

Couldn't be without this tool, i do a lot of work with steel, concrete etc and find it copes with all sizes of works.
I have used cup grinding discs on it and find it really easy to handle whilst trying to get the finish i want.
Comfy grip and not too pricy

For the price it is great for light tasks and does what it needs, good quality and definitely value for money.

It was ok for light tasks. I can’t believe it was struggling on unistrut but it was awesome for tray. It was on for the money but since upgraded to a hilti alternative

As always makita products perform. This angle grinder is great for cutting almost anything. It had plenty of power and is great for the stuff we use it for (unistrut,tray,basket)

Brilliant little grinder takes almost anything you can throw at it. Always have it in the van incase i forget a mains one so it has done a lot of work. Just dont put to much pressure on it or it will cut out

It is good tool loads of power in it has a very good battery life good prices for what it is I would recommend it to anyone

Recently brought this grinder for boiler installs as I had 110v milwalkie but wanted the hand free approach.
I was skeptic all about the power and the performance but I got to say it's bloody brilliant cutting roof tiles, bricks and flues. I even put my milwalkie on eBay as I deffitnley won't be needing it.
I managed to pick the bare unit up from screwfix same day and some 10 discs for £110

Great tool, mainly used for cutting metal but occasionally gets used fit wall/floor chasing. Keyless blade changing accessory works well with it

Having on used corded grinders in the past I've always been dubious of using a cordless however, after using im a convert. Stick a 5ah battery on and you have great runtime with some serious grinding/cutting power

Used a friends a few times now and it's a really good powerfull peice of kit considering it's 18v, saves on having cables trailing everywhere. Really easy to use and quick for those little jobs.

As far as 18v grinders go, I find this brushless 1 one of the better ones I've had previously. A well built bit of kit!

Easy to use and can take the workload however I do find that the batteries run out very quickly especially if grinding joints out.

Brilliant design from makita. Very ergonomic. Batteries last a bit shorter than on brushed one. Overall very happy with my upgrade and will highly recommend to any tradesman

Great angle grinder. It does run my batteries out fairly quick but it does pretty much any job I need it to before then. Highly recommended

It is great to have this as a bare kit as it complements my other 18volt tools. Great tool for cutting boiler flues to size. No more hacksawing boiler flues.

I bought just for a major install cutting projector poles down to size, but use for other jobs now. Good value and powerful, but does need a 4 or 5ah battery as the 3ah doesn't last very long.

Bought this for a specific job but now use it all the time. Powerful and well balanced. Nice on off switch and easy to use. Good quality and well worth the money. Only down side is batteries are terrible.

Brilliant piece of kit, highly recommended. Brilliant all round tool, that I use for multiple things. Brilliant for cutting roof tiles and floor and wall tiles, gives a brilliant accurate cut

Love these. Great for taking up on the roof when doing vertical flues and cutting down the tiles. Don't know how I ever coped before.

Great piece of kit and addition, if used continuous can drain the smaller battery's quickly so make sure your all charged up.
