An excellent contour guage of good size (250mm) allows easy and accurate profile scribing with very little effort. Each of the fins is around 1mm in width and glides effortlessly while retaining shape. The kit comes complete with a deep hole pencil, which in itself is an essential tool for the toolbox. Definitely recommend this to anyone wishing to transfer an existing profile to another surface, for example, cutting tiles around objects. I've yet to find one with longer fins, but this is adequate for most situations.

Good and solid did take some time to work out how to lock and unlock it, but once I worked it out, worked a treat. Used it on a couple of flooring jobs already and had no issues so far. Recommend.

Easy to use and it gives an accurate outline of the thing you are scribing the profile of. Also like the fact it gives you the size in both metric and imperial.

I think it’s a very good tool but would be even better if there were some sort of lock on the sliders once the shape has been taken at the moment it’s quite ridged but imagine with a littel lose the pins will not stay in place so we’ll

Great bit of kit. Made tiling around a toilet and sink a lot easier. Have used on a couple of other flooring jobs and works really well. Also like the locking mechanism.

Easy to use, professional grade and great looking tool. Used this tool when fitting some vinyl flooring on a recent job, put into place and got a straight forward copy to transfer onto the vinyl. Soon as I cut and dropped into place it was a perfect match. Great tool for my tool box!

I’ve used a similar product in the past when tilling and needing to cut around objects, the other product works the same way the difference between that one and this is firstly it’s more robust and better made the teeth hold in position nice and tightly and the lock is a great addition to use as soon as you have your contour it then can’t move whilst transferring to your material to be cut as my other tool is looser and unless you have a steady hand it often moves a little before you have finished transferring the pattern over. On the whole a great item especially useful when installing flooring or tiling & other uses I’m sure! Well made good quality.

Very good scribing tool. For making cuts around pipes, uneven surfaces. Very useful for me as a plumber and bathroom installer would definitely recommend getting one. Instead of making lots of measurements for complicated areas

Enables you to get a quick and easy template of the surface you are trying to cut around. It also has easy to read measurements in both metric and imperial sizes, that can give information as to dimension and sizes.

This Tracer tool is just like other tracer tools. Great!!! The build quality is better than most. Easy to use and has a lock function to hold the profile you just made. Mine was the 250mm version and the recyclable box came with a Tracer pencil and holster. While this is a great addition I would have prefered it didn’t come with one and made it slightly cheaper as I already have a few as they come with other items. The pencil and holster last that long I have many spares. Great tool for tilers and flooring installers.

Hey, it's Gareth from Udell Electrical Services here. Tool Talk Expert Trades has sent me some of this cool tracer stuff. They've sent me some carpenter pencils to try out and have a look and review. They've sent some of these new construction crayon markers, wax markers. Not seen those ones before, but gave them a go. And they also sent me the TRACER contour gauge, which is actually really good.
First of all, I'll start with the contour gauge, took it out of the box. So I've used the cheaper versions of these before, but what I found with those is that they're not as reliable as this one. So what I found with these, unlike the cheaper ones, you can lock your pattern in, so we'll put that around a pipe or whatever and there's a proper positive lock mechanism so that is now locked in place. So where the cheaper ones sort of slide about and you lose your contour, this one locks in really quite strong, which is great. Also great, it comes with a tracer pencil. A big fan of these kind of pencils, I've got a couple of these, but great that another one comes in the box. Again, you can use that to scribe round. So overall, the TRACER scribe is great.
I also got sent the carpenter's pencils, pack of carpenter's pencils to try out. Again, used just a generic sort of pencil. This one, I've used these before. They're all sort of the same. A great sort of pencil, hard lead, dropped that one a few times so that's great. And it's also comes with a nifty sharpener in the bottom, so you don't have to get out your standard knife and sort of dangerously try and sharpen the thing. Comes with a cool pencil sharpener designed especially for these awkward shapes because as you can see, they're not a standard size pencil, but that works perfectly.
And the other thing that I got sent was some of these wax marker crayons. I had to keep these out of my little one's hands. She thought they were wax crayons and basically, they are, but they're sort of stronger. I found them really useful. I made a gate in the garden and so it was rough sawn timber. So you can use the red wax marker just to scribe lines and it stood out really well. So all in all, great TRACER products. Thanks a lot to Tool Talk for sending them out to give us a review. Definitely go and get you some of those.

Hello there. Hi. It's James here from Eastside Electrical Services. Got three products to show you to review today. All products are from TRACER. We have their chippy's pencils as I call them, builder's pencils, large marking pencils. We have construction crayons. I love these. These are fantastic. And the ProContour Gauge marking kit.
Where do I start? TRACER, you know everything's going to be good just by the name. Pencils first. Standard builder's pencil, if you like, square edged, I like these. These are nice and tight. 4H, it was quite hard on the led, nice easy marking. Comes with a sharpener, which I know the chippies amongst you will be laughing, but as an electrician, I found it quite handy. Save me using my blunt Stanley knife to get a nice edge. That does the trick really well. Nice marking, nice and tidy up against wood. Very good on... I used this to mark out a kitchen, ready for rewiring. I liked it, yeah, good marks.
Where do we go from there? Lumber crayon. This is a new one I just grabbed out the box 'cause I've muddled the other one. These are fantastic, really, really good. Work in the rain, wet, I was marking some wet slabs, fantastic, yeah. I mean we've all used bits of slate. The other pencils are good. These just give you a nice mark that stays there. So I was well impressed with these. Builders out there always looking for that chippy bit of wood, as I say, slate pencils, these are much better. Get some of these. You get 12 in a box. I'm sure they're inexpensive. Keep them in the van, just not on the dash 'cause I'm sure they'll melt, but very, very good.
Last up is the ProContour Marker. Now I've actually owned a couple of these in my time. And what can I say? This one does exactly what it says on the tin. Push it against the contour you want to mark, lock it off. I wasn't quite ready for that. Push it off, lock it off, ready to cut. Really nice. Nice addition is your markings for your ruler size. I couldn't see why you'd have any difficulty using it. Really, really good. I really liked it. Like I say, I've used a couple of these in my time cutting flooring in, that sort of thing, tiling, and I found this one no bother at all.
As I say, I don't do building work by trade, more DIY in that front, but I really like this one. Comes in a nice little box and, of course, you get the pen with it, the pencil with it, and anybody who's anybody must have seen the TRACER pencil, brilliant little thing. I always liked the little sharpener in the lid. It's TRACER. If you need anything like it, you can trust the name. Everything's quality about it.
The three products I've reviewed, if you want it, marks out of 10 shall we say, pencils, eight out of 10. It's a pencil, does exactly what it says on the tin. These were the nuts, I really enjoy it, really like these. They can have a 10 out of 10 for me. Fantastic. TRACER Contour, like I say, it's a contour marker. Again, quality built, nice and strong. I'm going to say eight out of 10 again. Everything by TRACER is good, does what it says. Thanks for listening. Hope it helps some of you. Enjoy.
