As a user of the TS55 track saw and CTL midi extractor for the last 6 years. This is an expensive piece of equipment but as any user of the festool products know they are well worth their weight in gold. Quality and precision are as perfect now as it was new 6 years ago.

I have had a ts55 rail saw for 15yrs+ I am now on my 3rd one and only because I keep all my power tools for 5yrs and replace them this is the best saw on the market by far so accurate and precise it's like a factory finish if you keep the blade sharp !! Couldn't be without one of these in my van !! Festool are simply the best albeit a bit pricey but you only get what you pay for !! One word excellent !!

I started using a Festool MIDI dust extractor with my wall chaser when I blew up my old Henry Hoover. What a machine with the filter and filter bags there is zero dust when chasing out which is fantastic especially in occupied rewires. The only downfall I have is I find the top of the casing quite brittle and easy to break when knocked

A brilliant range of tools that are well made and a company that listens to and acts on input received from the trades that actually use them.
With tools we use from the grinder to the plunge saw, sanders and domino it’s easy to keep it all accurate and repeatable results.

My trusty Festool CTL 33 LE SG extractor has done many hours of work used in an automotive workshop. When it would not run after fours years of daily use. I found the motor brushes were worn down. I was able to buy a set for £10. I found that the unit was very well built with maintenance in mind. The brushes were very easy to change and the extractor continues to provide reliable service.
The ability to manually clean the filters on the fly without having to remove them is real time saver ( we deal with a lot of fine dust which can block filters quickly on any make of extractor) . The bags self seal and are easy to change. The consumables could be cheaper ( filters & dust bags) but what price due out on keeping your lungs dust free.

They are brilliant, their customer service is excellent but you are paying a premium for that level. Accessories and consumables are pricey too.
Where they stand out is in their innovation, they have products no one else does like the insulation saw (I’ve just bought one but not used it yet) or the domino (got one very good when needed but I don’t use it that much)

Festool are great and so are dewalt,
Your question is a little vague, so, as a company we have both I’ll give you a little of what I know.
Festool have a really good range of very well made wood working tools. The plunge saw and tracks we cannot fault at all, we use them all the time with various projects.
As well as the domino is a marvel to use and you wonder how you ever got along without it.
The double bevel chop saw has great visibility, an inline handle and feels fantastic in use.
The drills, quadrive specifically is a brilliant bit of kit, heavy but very precise, adjustable 4 step gearing will drive home a 10mm thunderbolt into 8’ gate post with little complaint, just watch your wrists.
The extractor is fantastic, great consistency and dust management. The newer generations are better still.
Paired with the rotex sander you can put a mirror finish on whatever you like.
As for the rest, grinder, sds, multi tool, jigsaw, are all very comparable to dewalt, and in some instances are inferior to the black and yellow. The festool sds is seriously lacking.
Festool you’ll want in your workshop, cabinet making or top end kitchens of fine finishing. But doing a barn install in a muddy field I’m more comfortable dropping the dewalt in the mud and not worrying about effecting it in any way.
Both tools have places and will earn you more money than you spend on them.
Asked on 29th October 2020 by Jack
Are these tools worth the prices for somebody who’s not a professional and using the tools every day?

Brands can be defined as ‘being for a DIY’er’ and ‘being for a professional’. Cost and build quality determine. I use a mixture of both. If it’s a tool I will use regularly (daily) and need accuracy, longevity and power then I buy a professional brand and (mostly) get what I pay for. There are some tools I only need occasionally, in that instance I do buy (or at least consider) the lower priced tools and have been pleasantly surprised.

Personally it’s down to usage and precision

I personally would not buy Festool if I wasn’t going to be using them daily.

I would say it depends on what tools you are looking for on paper there are a lot of dust extractors but the best I have found is Festool the lines of Festool and maffel are a world apart from most I would alway recommend buying the best you can afford it will last you a good amount of time many would say you don’t need to spend the money but try a miter a bit of oak with a £20 odd saw from b&q and compare it to a kapex and you will know

A big NO overpriced and not as good as they say

Not for personal use.
I use daily for my trade and is worth the investment. There are cheaper equally decent products out there that will do exactly the same job.

Just got a kapex mitre saw and I have to say it's well worth the extra

They are amazing tools but pricey. They are overpriced for Diy or non professional use. They are even a bit rich for a large number of the professionals

Would you consider a trade in service? Selling/buying used tools is a minefield with the amount of tool theft, maybe manufactures could partially help the issue with a trade in scheme for newer models and donate to charities or resell them as verified ownership tools?

Great idea. I just lost £1200 pounds of tools and I was only working about six meters away. I thought these two blokes in what looked like a uniform and a smart van were collecting. They were, tools from my van. I was gutted as some were with me from man and boy. Simply Business were excellent, I got paid out in a week. Better then the police, they never turned to view the CCTV which was above my van when they said they would.

Also are you planning on exhibiting at tool fair this year? And do you have plans to extend warranties as they seem short?

Do you have any new tool ranges coming out soon and if so, what? What’s the next phased plan for amp age for battery tools what do we have to look forward to in that sector?
