I was left a little disappointed by this tool. It is great for very light duty applications for instance removing faceplate screws during an electrical inspection but the low torque capability of the driver leaves it a little lacking. I personally do not think the price point is worth it.

I love my speede fantastic for 2nd fix jobs especially when we being in long socket screws, I was a bit dubious with it but got it very cheap compared to the retail price which to be honest I dont think it warrants the £200 price tag. If you struggle at the end of the week with your wrists etc then this will certainly help with the strain but is certainly not an all in one and barely has enough torque to do up a socket

Review for Wiha speedE by Keynston Services

I've had this now for over a year and use it quite a lot, especially when faced with a lot of screwing. I received mine after a lot of poor publicity for SpeedE last spring, but I'd researched it on American and German websites where its true potential (and limitations) were clearly laid bare. It was not intended for the kind of treatment I think many sparks wanted to use it for (hence the poor reviews I saw last year). Maybe Wiha got the marketting wrong; that being said, the SpeedE II looks like it does address a lot of concerns about torque and grunt.

For me, the SpeedE met my occasional requirements for a good screw / unscrew tool that would save on RSI when faced with a lot of screws. I knew (from the American Wiha site) that it did not have power for undoing tight screws, but it was great for lots of repetitive work. It will tighten up screws to about 0.4 Nm, after that good wrist power is needed. It has a useful LED light to illuminate your immediate work.

It also fitted in well with my existing collection of manual Wiha slimbit drivers, including the Stubby, Slimvario, and the 38611 six-bit screwdriver. Between them I had enough variety, and slimbit sizes, for many jobs I encounter and the ability to get into tight spots.

The SpeedE added a welcome degree of comfort when faced with a lot of screw-in, screw-out work and or when swapping between slotted, pozi or phillips screws or when faced with a mix of sizes. That being said, when I'm "just" faced with a few screws then I revert to manual rather than unpack the SpeedE.

Overall it is an expensive tool and it does lack the power / torque that many sparks want and expect. I've not had any problems with mine, but I've heard of some issues with the rubber grommet seal. I obtained spares from Wiha, and apply a bit of light grease to ease the bits in & out. It comes with two batteries and a charger, mine came in a neat L-Boxx which also holds some of my spare bits.

First off all a brilliant tool, slightly underpowered but still great. Mine had a issue with losing the rubber oring which holds the bit in place. Cost is high which made it worse when I lost it but enjoyed using it. Made long machined screws a dream.

I bought this over priced screwdriver in the spare of the moment thinking it would be handy for EICR’s and just speeding up screwing things back on second fix.
At the start it was good, but quickly began to fail.
Would decide when it wanted to work, one minute it would turn and the next it wouldn’t.
Would not recommend this product.

As this the first generation you can let it off for not being perfect. It is a great concept and presented really well. The way you use it is great having two batteries that you can recharge is great the ability to put a torque bit on it and use any wiha driver bit amazing. But what is a downside is the lack of power. it would be great to have more power then down grade it then have less and need more. Also if it wasn't so pricey considering its contenders

I have had a speede 1 for around 1 year the novelty of it wore off after about the first week so it went into retirement on the back shelf of me can. Lately I have been involved with a lot of panel building and after starting to get pains in my wrist I dug it out again. I am now convinced about it and use it all the time for this type of job. It has it's time and place and I wouldn't go back to a standard screwdriver for panels but I am also the first to admit it is no use as a general purpose screwdriver.

I was really looking forward to getting to use my new speed-e. At first it worked great, but then the bits started to get stuck and I lost the o-ring which holds them in (was sent replacements by wiha) but then I sent it in for repair due to the trigger sticking and sometimes not working. Came back fine, and used it again for about 3 weeks then the same issue again. I haven't bothered contacting wiha again so it's sat in the bottom of my box gathering dust

Feels very sturdy haven’t had any problems with it feeling cheap or plasticy. 1 criticism is it could do with a locking mechanism for the battery storage. Just like a normal screwdriver but bigger. And obviously takes away strain from the wrists Exactly the same as a normal screwdriver but it is motorised. This is great for most things but could do with a little more torque.I got it for free so excellent. But for the price I think it could be a little cheaper. But if there are some improvements make I think the price could justify it.

The build quality is great feels good in your hand and materials used to build it are of a good quality Okay it is really easy to use so should have been a 5 star but the fact you can't really use it puts it down to a 3 star the features are good its got a light which really helps when your doing a consumer unit in the cupboard under the stairs comes with a few useful bits also I think for what it is, it is way too over priced if it actually did the job it was supposed to do then i would say yeah the price would be right

It feels very sturdy and nice to hold It’s simple to use. Turn the dial to go 1 way and then the opposite to reverse the way the driver is going What let’s it down is the fact the “o” ring can pull out easily when changing heads Their is no denying it saves time on underdoing screws. I’ve even ordered the speed-e 2 as I love the 1st so much so then the newer version is sure to be better.

It’s feels sturdy and the bits are held securely in the main body. It’s super easy to use just twist to losen your screw then twist the trigger and your screw comes undone. The only reason It’s not a 5 star is it’s to easy to accidentally twist the trigger whilst tightening or loosening off the the screw to start with and you then get a bit of move the from the screwdriverAs far as features go it’s pretty limited. It has a single led when using but this should have been a halo from the start. It’s also very low on the torque ratingIt’s a lot of money for something that has limited torque range. There are plenty of attachments but considering you can get an rechargeable electric screwdriver that also comes with significantly more bits for as little as £20 it’s hard to justify buying one full price.

Good build quality
Nice ergonomic handleIt’s has a easy to use switch
And a comfortable handle
Light works well to let get up what your are working onThe light is good
And the bit change is great
I feel that it needs a bit more torque as it won’t even tighten up a socket screwI’m glad I never paid full price for it as I would have been disappointing
But it’s still a good screwdriver and I do use it a few times a month

Comes in a very sturdy case keeping it all safe when being stored. The screw driver is built solid and the bits slide in to the very strong holder.
The bits are to the same high quality as the rest of the Wiha screwdriver bits. For my job (fire systems engineer) it is perfect as some of the terminations are in tight enclosures, with thumb and finger operation of the powered part it easily tightens the termination.
We also train engineers, and once a week I have to strip down all our training fire system rigs (over 320 terminal screws), the SpeedE makes this an absolute doddle, and has saved me hours since I got it.It’s just like a normal screw driver in size and weight. Whilst holding it like a screw driver you simply turn the power ring, which is just where your finger and thumb are and it rotates. It is not like the bulky heavy powered screwdrivers others make.It is a little more expensive than the bulky powered screw drivers, however in my opinion it is worth it, but the price tag may put it out of some people’s price range.

What I have experienced, the speed-e is that it is a very firm and strong driver, with the ability to do most of the work for you. The only thing is that it needs that extra bit of kick when unscrewing screws. But I understand that with the size of the battery and motor inside the driver, that will be hard to achieve.Positives great at saving time unscrewing and screwing with just a touch of a button. Love when you are in a awkward position to unscrew a screw the ease of just pushing a button makes life 100 times easier.

Negative- it’s not strong enough all the time. Not the end of the world to loosen a screw but it would be niceGreat features with the light at the end of the screw driver which makes life a lot better. I have noticed with the 2.0 that the light is larger great improvement.
I think the grip and how comfortable it is to use is a huge bonus.I think as I paid a discount price it was worth it, along with the Benefits that came with it. I probably would not have purchased the speed-e for the original price which I think was over the £150 mark. As I could get other toolset for that price and I just could not come to grips with paying that much for a screwdriver. That may be personal preference though

This tool has a very specific use, it is for electrical accessories and terminal screws. It is not designed to screw into wood or rawl plugs etc. The low torque account for this.

Right, now that’s out the way.

This is great for repetitive working, to prevent strain on hands and wrists. Not so great for small or one off jobs as the benefits don’t shine through in short duration working.

The battery lasts long enough and charging overnight is fine. It has a usb charger so can be left in the van to charge if needed.

As it’s the 1st version there are some changes needed to improve it;
1. Torque settings - there are none. It would be ideal to have 2 or 3 standard torque settings to suit accessories and MCBs/RCBOs.
2. Speed settings - again none, long accessory screws do take a long time so 2 speeds would be great.
3. The switch position does not suit everyone (at least not me!) if it were further down the handle it would suit my larger hands, or, if Wiha introduced a ‘push to activate’ that would be kinda cool.

The price is somewhat high, the R&D and VDE properties will no doubt contribute to this.
If it were half the price I could see it flying off the shelves.

All in all, a good product with a fairly specific job. Some modifications needed to make it great.

The second kept getting stuck on and the third had the same problem as the secondEven though it keeps going wrong I still couldn’t live without one it makes my life so mich easier it’s a great tool and will always recommend oneGreat features the light is worth having one just on its own. I have been using the product for a couple of months on site. It is frequently used and has not presented any issues. It feels solid made, the driver bits engage nicely in to the holder and do not slip when used.Extremely easy to use. I have kept it within the L-Boxx it arrived in and this has kept everything nice and neatly together and easy to hand to use.The low torque setting has been reported by many as too low and for some purposes it is. It would be beneficial to up this to 1Nm to make more multi purpose. However, when used to screw back electrical accessory faceplates it performs very well, the low Torque is only an issue if the box threads are not clean. I have recorded a short clip of myself using the SpeedE for this exact purpose and it has performed perfectly and protects from over tightening and cracking faceplates. An improved torque or variable torque setting would enable to product to serve additional purposes including working within consumer units.at full purchase price i believe there are other products on the market that offer better value for money as they can serve multiple purposes

It’s a solid price of equipment and a very good weight, unfortunately the contacts and start switch seem a little unresponsive sometimes. I’ve only ever used it in a clean second fix environment and it sticks and over runs or it doesn’t come on straight away. But really a minor issue. It is fantastically easy to use.
A real benefit to the workplace and a saver or my wrists. The box it comes in is compact and robust, it links with other types easily.
The selection of bits you can get with it varies massively for pretty much all screw heads. At first I had thought it was a little over priced, but after working with it for some time it’s really an invaluable assist to the job.
The work light and versatility of the slim vario and speed e ticks all boxes for a well thought out tool.

Quite comfortably the worst tool to reach the market. How a development team get paid to come up with this is unbelievable.

The tool is expensive so you fully expect a good quality build and reliable performance. However the torque is very weak and struggles to tighten any terminals or loosen them. The overall feel of the tool is bulky and not the best to handle.

The battery life is terrible and the charge time for such a small battery is far too long.

To compare it to anything, think of a child's play toy electric screwdriver. However comparing the two would be unfair on the child's toy!

Please do not buy this product or be persuaded by expert trades promotions etc. Search reviews and you will find similar reviews to mine. However do not read any reviews on mainstream platforms as you can purchase these reviews very easily through marketing companies. I suspect they are bogus.

If anyone would like my tool set for free you are more than welcome.

However, as someone that suffers with nerve issues in my hands it does assist with the manual side of the trade. I found that the battery also loses power quickly. My review in the SpeedE, love the feel in the hand of the handle, the switch could possibly have been a simple forward and backward switch instead of rotary switch but you get used to it.

This is ideal for all my work in consumer units and second fixing accessory faces on, yes as other have said the torque could have been set slightly higher but that’s no issue as we all know the consumer unit screws are all set to different rates by manufacturer and depending on the item itself, I use the speedE to screw everything to it’s own limit then go around with my Wiha torque driver which is easier in my opinion.

It’s invaluable for screwing accessory faces back especially when they’re not white plastic you don’t seem to slip off the screw once aligned correctly.

I’ve given the speedE a three star for value for money as I just think it’s slightly overpriced, I’ve given it a five star for features as I’m glad it’s been made to fit all the slim vario bits meaning it’s fully compatible with all the driver bits in my collection

Great screwdriver. The battery life is fairly decent and with the second battery I’ve not yet run out of power in one day’s use. Plenty of interchangeable heads make it very versatile

I have tried speede..
It fits inside the pocket. Comfortable grip.Looks good, good for Board change, easy to cay inside MFT bag.
Lack of torque, I dont know how long battery going to last, as not used it for to long.
Overall if someone's to buy it price should be around £100.

I purchased my speede a couple of years ago, I'm glad I did.

Such an improvement on labour and time, more noticeably when second fixing or doing eicrs. You remain in full control of the screwdriver, still able to use feel to ascertain the tightness of terminals.
I purchased the set with the torque bits, which although are not used on every job, when they are they are reliable and simple to use.

Customer service from wiha is second to none, I had some issues with my first 2 drivers and these were replaced, when I lost the o ring from the end, the sales manager, Tony sent more out to me straight away.

The light on the driver is a nice touch, especially in dull or dark areas.

This is one tool in my bag I couldn't manage without now.

Great bit of kit once I accepted that it's not made to screw things up completely. I spent the first week using it thinking it wasn't powerful enough but then I watched the video explaining how it's supposed to be used and now I see the real benefit of the speed E. The only thing I can really say that's negative about it is the cost I think it's quite a bit to ask for when there are other cheaper versions out there. Also the torque adapters are rather pricey too but if your worried about your wrists getting repetitive strain injuries then this is the driver for you!

I got one off these and I like the idea of it, I got one battery but It doesn’t seem to last long. I’ve used it on a few jobs and will keep you updated on its use. It seems a lot off money for what it is.

This is a great tool once you understand what it’s meant to be used for. If you are wanting a driver with the power to put wood screws in this is not for you. This tool removes the repetitiveness of screwing socket screws and electrical terminals, the driver will screw until a certain torque is reached, it’s then up to the user to finish the job to the correct torque. It took a while to get used to it, but it has found a lifelong place in my toolkit now.

I Recieved a Wira Speed-E recently and have fully charged it prior to use. Since then i have tried to use it on multiple occasions and the screwdriver just doest pack enough power to turn the screws, it just about manages when the screw is almost out. Its also not a natural feeling to twist the handly to turn the automatic screw feature on, i believe a push button would be alot more effective. This product priced at roughly £170 works out as a very expensive handheld screwdriver as in my personal experience the automatic screw function is completely useless.

Well built, sturdy tool as you’d expect from Wiha. unfortunately I feel needs more power for undoing and tightening screws. I received it as a member of the Wiha Pro club but would say it is too expensive to pay full price.

Definitely has its uses and can be a big relief for the wrists for certain jobs.

Received my speed e as part of the wiha pro club.
Pros:
Compact
Good quality Unit and bits
Well designed case
Fits in pocket
Not overly bulky, can use one handed
Handy bright light on the front

Cons
Battery life seems awful (after a full day charge)
Price overall seems high for what it is
Low torque overall

Having considered all of the above I am happy with the product overall, happy I have one to use but wouldn’t of wanted to pay the full retail price for it.

The SpeedE isn't a gimmick like I first thought, its good for those jobs where torque isn't required i.e. long face-plate screws.

It fits nicely in the hand, the small light is useful and the rotation button easy to use. The slim bits fits nicely within the SpeedE however I do recommend putting a little grease on the fitting end, this will stop the o-ring being pulled out when removing the slim bit.

I have been having problems with the driver not working, but the light coming on, or the motor being stuck on. Yes, I have tried both batteries that are fully charged, .

The carry case is nice but not what I would carry around on site, a small pouch that I can clip to myself with the ability to store the slim bits would be better.

I would like to see more torque or an adjustable torque setting.

Not worth the mega cost but still a useful item to the tool bag.

love this piece of kit,was a little taken back at the start as power wise wsdnt to sure, but as I've used it more and more I'm used to it,handle is perfect and just the right size to get a good torque on,the led light is a great idea specially in those little dark corners, the little twist to go is in the perfect position

Good customer service. It's very easy to use...straightforward. Although it's nice to use, I find it it is not very powerful for tougher screws. Although it's good it is a tiny bit expensive.

I won my SpeedE through expert trades and have been using for the last 1.5 months. I use it most days for alot of different projects but find that putting screws into sockets is about the best thing it does as when carrying out work on hotel project there were about 70 sockets to be put on and this significantly reduced the time it took to fit them. Very good well built product from Wiha but definitely would require a bit more torque in the driver as if you hit a hard bit on a socket it will stop. Also the ring for control can stick occasionally but this is probably down to lack of maintenance on my part.

Well can i say quality piece of kit, unfortunately Wiha have missed an opportunity to deliver an electric screwdriver that was for everyone by not having enough torque or adjustable one, what i mean by this machine screw threads good, but anything else with a bit of resistance , it will struggle, if your an electrician sockets, switches lights it’s excellent for, but anything else it will struggle.

Anybody tried the speedE 1 AND speede 2? What's the difference between them?

Answered on 9th April 2021 by DAJ

Speed-e 2 has a higher torque mode/switch and a better light on it, a ring as opposed to a single led.

Also I believe the battery is slightly different making it easier to find replacements for it.

I find it brilliant but seems a bit of a marmite product.
There are other more powerful ones out there. But none vde that I have seen. The torque can be an issue with a threaded screw, or an accessory not lunged up well, but I prefer the finesse of using it rather than brute forcing it through.

Asked on 15th February 2019 by Darren Spencer Electrical

Can you make any improvements on build quality e.g. adjustable torque/rubber o ring?

Answered on 6th July 2019 by Lyttle Smart Homes NI

I dont think they can make any improvement on the product but I think Torque will be an issue and supply of o rings is going to be a must as I have almost lost mine already.
