Makita
Makita has always had the vision that society and global communities should be able to develop for themselves, and future generations. By providing the tools, Makita is ensuring that anything is possible.
We can be certain of this by the initiatives that guide our business every step of the way. From our regard for the environment, evolving safety measures and innovations in design and manufacturing, we're sure that not only are we contributing to a better today, but investing in a better future.
Innovation
Key to Makita's vision is the constant strive for innovation in our technology and our products. From our safety solutions like AVT and dust extraction, through to our Lithium-Ion battery and chargers technology, Makita is at the forefront for new ideas.
This is all down to our dedicated research and development centre in Japan, where engineers work hard to constantly improve our products in all aspects, from power consumption through to ergonomic design and function.
Manufacturing
Makita manufactures its tools in plants across the globe, from its headquarters in Japan to here, in the UK. Our Telford manufacturing plant is the only full-production facility for power tools in the UK and has been successfully running construction on many of our top line cordless power tools since 1991.
Makita's acquisition of Dolmar in 1991 has also meant that we have one of the strongest histories in the Outdoor Power Equipment market and the plant in Germany constantly delivers tools worldwide to the highest quality.
At the heart of our manufacturing process is the belief that for a good tool you need a good motor, and Makita makes every effort to make sure our motors are of the best quality. We source the absolute best raw materials and components in order to build the most powerful and efficient motors we can imagine.
Premium grade steel is used to produce armature shafts and gears, and only steel of the highest grade is used, whilst high grade magnetic copper wire goes into each and every one of our tools to ensure superior current flow whilst withstanding extreme temperatures.
Our quality control tests each, and every, machine that leaves our manufacturing plants. Nothing is left untested; on the motor alone we perform 19 extensive tests!
Our high standards go a long way, which is probably why when you buy Makita, it's likely to be a lasting relationship.

Purchased a MLS100N mitre saw. First use doing a normal 90 degree angle and it caught a fence guard. Had followed the instructions, and wasn't trying to do any kind of compound cut and had checked everything. Shards of metal flew everywhere. Spoke to the builders merchants where I bought it and they said it should never have happened. But Makita they are telling me it was user error and charging me almost the cost of the saw to put it right. All of our tools have been Makita and I've always been a huge advocate of them - but first time with a problem and feel very let down. Very dangerous and very disappointed!

I made a choice to swap my Milwaukee tools to Makita a few months ago. So I bought an SDS (DHR 424) and a radio (MR007GZ). The SDS has no impact protection. I did a few chases in a kitchen with it and my hands were numb for days. The radio has a subwoofer on the underside of the unit which affects the sound quality. I first off decided to remove the cover and deaden it was a sock, but when I decided the SDS wasn't for me, I made the decision to take both Makita products back to the shop, and replaced them with the Milwaukee radio and SDS (M18 CHX). I did ask the question about the radio receiving an update, which Makita ignored. I'll stick with my Milwaukee after all.

DO NOT BUY THIS TOOL!!!!!!
Horrendously inadequate!!
Daily jams, Mis-fires, nails not sinking, cheap plastic Brad magazine with a spring that isn’t strong enough to lift a 50mm Brad strip up to be fired, hence the miss-fires and jams etc.
Absolute TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!!

I only own one Makita tool and that’s a corded jigsaw which I’ve owned for around four years now. They are nice and solid, it is ergonomically very comfortable in the hand and it’s never skipped a beat. Very easy to change blades, no tools needed. I’ve use it for a number of large projects and lots of fine cuts. I never have to worry about running out of juice with the battery but the court does get in the way a lot of the time. Now that 90% of my tools are 18 V battery operated I wish I had bought a battery powered jigsaw to. Having said that I have absolutely no complaints apart from the cord obviously. Makita seems like a good brand.

My dad got his first cordless drill in the early 1990’s, it was a Makita. This was a tool that totally transformed the building business.
Other drills are good and over the years l have owned hitachi, dewalt and Milwaukee but for me Makita is the best. Makita seem to have better trigger control for accurate drilling and screwing.
Most people find tools that suit the way they work.
Makita are the ones for me. Over the years l have built my kit so now l have drills, impact drivers, saws, routers, planners, grinders and nail guns that all work off Makita 18v batteries

These are great tools made to the highest quality. I have always found them to be reliable. The batteries were poor on the first drill I bought from them but I replaced them and I am very happy with the replacements. I do not work them vey hard but they do everything I need of them. I would have no problem recommending them to any other professional workman, enthusiastic DIYer or somebody looking for their first tool. They are a bit more expensive than other brands but you get what you pay for that is quality gear that lasts and won’t need to be thrown away and replaced after a few uses

Other than that the tools have worked faultlessly and can take everything I throw at them without a murmur. So glad I followed someone’s advice and went teal!!!!

Great Ergonomics
For all the DHP481 is tough and capable it’s a joy to hold. Makita’s ergnomics are legendary, and the DHP481 will be comfortable for you to hold all day, with the trigger and speed selector, along with the torque ring, all being easy to use even when you’re wearing gloves.
And because it’s got that brushless motor, it’s also really light and compact, weighing in at only 2.7kg with the battery fitted, with a head length of a mere 205mm. Even though it outputs up to 125Nm of torque, the vibration K factor is just 1.5m/sec².
We’re excited by the functionality and benefits of the Makita DHP481 brushless combi-drill, but we want to know what you think, plus any questions you may have; is it the best on the market in your opinion?

I’ve recently bought a Makita DUC 353Z chainsaw after my trusty Husqvarna packed in after 15 years of years of trouble free use ( difficulty sourcing parts & too many parts needed to make economical repair reason for Decision ) , anyway back to the Makita chainsaw & I have to say it’s was a very good choice made partially because I have been slowly changing to the makita 18 volt battery range of tooling so to avoid the need for several different batteries / chargers etc so it made good economical sense as I already have a good supply of batteries. The chainsaw is very light therefore extremely manoeuvrable in its use & the power is instant , another great bonus for me is the fact I can now cut logs in my garage without gassed out with petrol fumes & another great benefit is the fact it is so quite it saves disturbing my neighbours, overall a cracking tool that up to now I’m well pleased with.

This is also very good, it’s only downfall is the release mechanism is a poor design and keeps jamming. I have used a Dewalt one which is much better

I’m a Marita man at heart as I love the brand from the first drill driver I bought. I live near the makita headquarters and they have fixed many of my tools free of charge even when out of warranty, they see it as good customer relations. I am however aware of the rise of other brands of power tools and as such I’m much more selective when I buy these days. Makita are still good value for money and fairly robust product but some tools aren’t the best like for like. Case and point my battery powered makita skill saw is virtually useless unless cutting cardboard. Decent blades make no difference. It doesn’t have the power of its rivals. On the other hand I can’t do without my drill driver and impact driver, even use them as a hammer when needed. Never let me down. Sometimes I think I’m paying too much for the name. Always be wary

I was recommended to buy a Makita BO4555 palm sander by several people. I've used this sander since 2013 and it has not let me down. I recently bought a new base pad which was easy to fit, and I also bought a new bearing and some seals which I haven't fitted as it doesn't need them yet. I don't mind paying out for tools that can handle heavy use on a regular basis, and this palm sander delivers. I haven't yet had to contact Makita so I don't know what the customer service is like, but when you have a tool that is easy to service and maintain yourself, customer service really is a last resort. I hook this sander up to an extractor, and it sucks up 95% of the dust I create when rubbing down walls, ceilings and woodwork.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the Makita BO4555 palm sander. Excellent product.

What is the best means for storing 18v Batteries? I have 12 but can yet to find a storage box made for the job, I’m after a Mac pack designed to clip the batteries in safely to keep the dust off of the terminals and room for a charger so every night I just pick up the one box from the van and take it inside to charge them, any ideas ?

Maybe a deep storage box (your preferred brand) with kaizen foam layers, leaving enough room for your charger

I use Makita 5” holesaw to drill out flooring for my shower tray waste installs or if I am passing 4” soil pipe through the floor in a 1st fix. Unfortunately they only do a few homes before they start to blunt which is to be expected. Just wondering if anyone has found a product the whizz’s through flooring and maintains its sharpness ?? Cheers James
Answered on 24th January 2021 by John Coombs
I’m thinking a battery jigsaw would be better as I’ve burned one drill out doing the same 110mm holesaw, don’t think even a sharphole saw would be much better,it’s ok for plasterboard, think the problem is in the way the teeth are arranged !!!

good drills but the quality has dropped off...poor battery life as batteries die after 12 months and you don’t do a standard battery now keep changing so old products don’t work hence you have to keep buying new products.
