Hi guys, another review for you guys, at Tool Talk. Today, I've got these Knipex side cutters. I instal air conditioning so all the time cables, cable ties, I constantly need a pair of something like this in my pocket. I've got quite a variety of different cutters that I do use, and whilst I've been learning, I've taken on different cutters. I've normally got a different pair for a different purpose, but these Knipex cutters are pretty good.
As I said, I've got Bahco, CK and now Knipex, and these are pretty good, they are extremely sharp even to now. As I said, I've had them for about three weeks and in comparison to the other ones, they're great. For cable ties, they're perfect, I wouldn't recommend using them for anything else. Light work, they're good, but for cable, I wouldn't recommend using them. I generally use SYY and NYY cable at about 1.5, 2.5mm, and these will struggle to get through it, as opposed to these, that are more designed for a nice crisp cut. As I said, for these, I'll generally only use them for cable ties.
So if you've got, you want a nice flush cut. With these, you can get that and it's no problem whatsoever, and you do get a nice crisp cut. But as I said, for cables, I wouldn't recommend using it. In comparison to other cutters, as I said, I've used all sorts of brands, Knipex, are just as good quality. Even better, perhaps, the grip on them is really nice and I do quite like the colours that you get. And obviously, made in Germany, on the back. But they are quite expensive, I think, for the price in comparison to others. For instance, these, I think were about £20, these Bahco ones. These ones are slightly more expensive, but if you want good tools, then obviously it's worth investing in a pair of something like these. As I said, I have different cutters for different things.
So, these typically would be for cutting cable ties, but if I was to say which one was sharper, it'd definitely be the Knipex. The only thing is, these ones do get a slightly crisper cut and a bit tighter to the actual cable tie, and you can get a slightly flusher cut. But, you do have to put a bit more effort into using these, whereas these Knipex ones are probably better. But, as I said, if I had to just take one pair of cutters with me to a job, it probably wouldn't be these. Because, if I've got more things to cut, as opposed to just cable ties, these won't do it. These will really struggle to cut through cable so, if you're looking for something that's a general pair of cutters, then this wouldn't work for you. As I said, you're better off having a pair of ones like this. As I said, these will cut through cable ties, cables, NYY, anything that you've got, these will go through. As opposed to these, as I said, they will struggle.
The only thing that I obviously have noticed, is that these aren't insulated. So you electrician guys, that are using these cutters for cutting cables, and even if you have isolated it, it could still be live, you'd have to go for the insulated ones. Which are the red and yellow pair, but overall, I'd highly recommend these for people that, obviously, do a lot of cable ties. If you're working on sites, then, obviously, you need to use metal cable ties. I haven't had any unexperienced with them, but I probably would suggest that you go for the beefier cutters than these. I think that these would wear quite quick on metal cable ties, but as I said, I've had these for about three weeks and they have been good. But the only reason I haven't used them so much, is because I do cut quite a varied amount of different materials. From cables, to cable ties, plastic, metal, all sorts of different materials.
Whereas, I would generally pick up a pair of these cutters as opposed to this, and obviously, you don't carry as many tools as you need. So, if I could just pick up a quick pair, it would be these, but it's not to say these aren't a good pair of cutters. They're brilliant, but for what I do, I'd probably pick up a different pair. But as I said, overall, these are great cutters, I mean, it's no problem cutting a tiny bit of cable tie. It shoots straight off and as I said, you can get quite a flush cut with these, and they've got quite a pointy edge, so you can get into quite tight places and cut them. But overall, they're great, great quality.
It's my first cutters from Knipex and I generally would buy more Knipex cutters in the future, because the quality is superb. Got a good amount of weight to them, they're not too heavy, quite mobile, maybe it would be nice if they had a little spring in there. Like these ones, you got a little spring that you can slide up and down, so that when you push it, springs back open. So maybe that's the only thing that I probably would recommend that they did in future. But, overall, they're great cutters. I'd highly recommend. All right, cheers guys. Thank you.
