Meh. They are ok but the smart grip gets stuck sometimes and won’t open. Not massive but just annoying. Would rather some standard ones. They are good but not better than the standard pliers. Other than the smart grip they are your standard high quality tool.

Great product, I always make sure I have two of them on me. Much easier to adjust than a lot of other styles, so less time spend fiddling more time working.

If your in Plumbing, Gas or Heating trade. This should be the tool that starts you off. i got my first pair of knipec grips when i was an apprentice 10 years ago. Although well used. i still use them to this day. and they get used nearly everyday. you may look at the price and think they are a little pricey. But 10 years, still going strong. They have more than paid for themselves. This is my number one tool in my toolkit.

Awesome to use! Auto adjustment to any size they’re faced with. Good for holding onto oddball shape/size things as you don’t need to keep adjusting to get the right feel. They don’t slip at all and will hold your weight if you stand on them!

Great to use and can be stored away in tool boxes and bags, great to keep in the van. Would even be handy for use at home when needed.

Hi, I'm Terry Burgin of Terry Burgin Plumbing and Heating Engineer. I'm a member of Expert Trades, and today I'm doing a Tool Talk review.
Today, the tool I'm going to review is the Knipex Smartgrip. They're an auto-adjustable pipe wrench, or pipe grips is what we call them. Basically what they'll do is if you're trying to clamp onto a fitting, say like a 15 mil, not that I would use these on these, but it will just auto adjust to the correct size so you don't have to mess about with normal grips while you're trying to get it into the perfect slot, the right slot for whatever fitting you're using.
This will just perfectly auto adjust to every size so you could even do something like a 22 mil and it will just auto adjust to the correct size right away and lock in. They've got a nice lock closed function as well to hold them shut in your tool bag. Really like these grips. I use them every single day on every job. They're the first tool out of my tool bag if I'm doing anything involving pipe.
I bought these at Installer Live this year, 2017. They were off the Knipex stand. Absolutely fantastic. I've probably had them now about six months. If I would need to buy another pair of grips, it'd probably only be these that I'd buy. Value for money, they are a bit more expensive than most other grips, I think just because they're Knipex branded, but I'd say they're the best. I don't mind paying a bit more for something I know is going to last.
I'm Terry Burgin, and I recommend the Knipex Smartgrip.
