TRACER Deep Hole Pencil

Great pencil, great for hard to reach areas and writes on everything, have had a lot of people ask me where i got it from wouldn’t had anything else now.

Great little pencil for marking hard to reach holes and lasts ages. Like that it comes in a protective case that you can clip onto your belt or tool bag. The built in sharpener is a great idea

Much the same as the pica but a little better designed. The sharpener is located near the clip and the holster is a little deeper allowing a longer lead

However after a little use the lead fails to be gripped by the internal mechanism and will slip while in use. This can get quite annoying and render the pencil useless.

I have not found it really useful for deep hole marking, the hole marking spray has been better for this. However as a general pencil for marking it is handy and easy to use.

I have had this marker now for a while and I havent lost it. Which is a win in its own. Having a marker and holder makes you hang onto it unlike generic pens.

This tracer marker is great, I use it on wood, brick, plaster, paint. All surfaces its been used. It has a good led that is quite soft which allows it to rub on the surface and not break, like pencils. It comes with 120mm lead which I have still got 80mm at least after 2 months of use.

I did notice that it also has a good holder that sits Well on trousers which does not unclip as you pull it out. The built in sharpener is also a nice touch. I have had similar markers which suffered from this issue.

The only negative I have noticed is the tracer branding on the side of the marker has worn off however this is not really an issue.

For the price and usability it is ideal for any onsite marking.

These are amazing for every type of marking and the built in sharpener means you can keep your marks accurate.
The holster clipped to your pocket or collar makes it simple to pull out and replace to a safe place.
Comfortable to hold and use and refills of lead of different colours means you can mark on pretty much anything and it can be seen.
There are other makes out there but this is the only one in my box.

I can definitely say this is the best marker I have used so far. As an electrician it .makes my job easier when I'm marking holes for back boxes. The tip doesn't break easily, value for money. I would highly recommend

I received my Tracer today after listening to everyone raving about them and I must say, you can add me to the club ! I have been using a marxman for the last year or so for a range of outdoor fittings which seem to have meaningless deep mounting holes that are a pain to get right even with a marxman, the Tracer was perfect for marking out and having the long barrel meat the holes were cantered every time. The built in sharpener is a brilliant idea and the tough case will ensure it lasts too!

Awesome pencil. Great for getting marks through deep entries. As an electrician I always find to be able to keep the ip rating of the products you need to be able to mark the outer holes. This is also a great pencil in general. It'll mark any surface

The tracer deep hole construction pencil is an essential piece of kit for all trades and diyers. Easy to use and sharpen using the sharpener provided. Its great for marking all types of materials and you can easily get spare leads from toolstation which includes a yellow crayon-like lead for marking darker materials. Does exactly what it says on the tin.

I got given one to review from tool talk used it on one job really nice to use then lost it so bought another one great feature is you don't have to press on for it to make a mark

I can honestly say that this is THE Best pencil I have owned.
Not just because it marks through deep holes. well it does if you do not push to hard
But I have not managed to lose my pencil once since having it. The holder clips securely to you and the marker to it. I never forget to put it back, so in turn always have it.
The only downside is that the replacement leads are very expensive.

I'd been aware of these since they were released, and to be honest I wasn't impressed with the idea of them, it seemed a bit of a gimmick to me.

Having used one for a week, I've completely changed my mind. It clips into my holster pocket securely marks every material I've used it on clearly, without smudging, and and I've only had to sharpen it once with the built in sharpener once. No more trail of staedler pencils behind me, these are the way forward!

The pencil lead seems to be really really strong and not at all brittle like most. It comes with a handy holder which had a built in pencil sharpener. As it's bright green it's really easy to find if you put it down somewhere. It's also really chunky so more difficult to lose that the standard carpenters pencils. Also the lead will write really clearly on just about any surface. You can extend the lead out the bottom to mark in tight spaces. A nice addition to my toolkit and u can't believe I'm so impressed by a pencil.

I received this pencil with trying it out. Firstly its a bit heavy to a standard pencil you can't put behind your ear like a standard pencil so good news there's a holder. I honestly say it no match to a standard pencil but it works just as well.

I was sent this by tool talk and all I can say is its a fantastic pencil. I have been using it for about a week now and It writes on anything. Kitchen worktops, wood, pipes etc. It comes with a built in sharper and the lead is replaceable. Only negative is I keep putting down on site and then spend 30 minutes trying to find it which is my own fault as it comes with a clip.

I've tried and discarded a number of site pencils over the years, and reverted to wooden carpenters pencils, or cheap WH Smith fine propelling pencils.
But when I saw the Tracer Deep site pencil I was very impressed (so much so that I bought a second, plus the spare six leads cartridge, that included 4 grey and 2 yellow leads for marking light or dark surfaces).

The pencil itself contains a solid 3mm lead, which so far has defeated any (accidental) drops to break the lead. The integral sharpener, in the sturdy holder, maintains a sharp point so that I also use the pencil for notes as I work through the day and recording test results. The holder clips securely to a pocket or clothing, meaning that the pencil is always within reach. The bright, dayglo green end means it is visible in gloomy lofts or dark corners.

Extending the lead means the pencil can mark accurately through a 3mm drilled hole in timber, and if the hole is 6mm then the metal shaft of the pencil extends the reach up to 140mm. Very impressive for reaching into deep hard to access places and marking screw holes.

I'm loving this marking tool. I used to use another brand that skirted chalk into the hoke but this is much better far more precise. The lead is actually quite strong and having yhe ability to extend or retract gives you much further scope for the marking. I'll definitely be using tracer from now on.

Having used a number of hole marking tools in the past there still isn't one that works in all situations but for most what I come across this does the job. The fact that it has the holster that fits neatly in your pocket means that I am never having to hunt for where I left the pencil as it quickly becomes second nature to return it to its holster. The only time it has been left wanting is when you are trying to mark on an unfinished surface such as a block wall where a chalk system is still the only one that seems to be reliable. Overall a very handy tool that has replace the multitude of pencils I usually carry.

Great for marking where a bigger carpenters pencil or sharpie can't get. But the best thing about this pencil is the holder it comes with. It slides tightly into your pockets so you always know where it is. Instead of having 300 pencils knocking about and can never find one when you need it. Bright green too, so if you do lose it, easy to spot again.

I have been given this by tool talk and can not recommend it enough I normally go through ten pencils a day and this comes with a little neat holster with a built in sharpener. Will never have to look behind both my ears again !!

Brilliant piece of kit Ill never go back to a normal pencil again, perfect for marking those hard to reach holes, this paired with the deep hole marker are a winning combo, would highly recommend this product to all trades. At first I was worried about sharpening it but the sharpener is built into the lid. Very handy and efficient.

Absolutely brilliant pencil so easy to just pull out of its case and stick it in those tight holes my last one had just run out of lead and I was lucky enough to get a freebie from tool talk

Having used the pica equivalent this did seem better and the sharpener is in a better place so you Dont have to take the holder out of your pocket to sharpen the lead highly recommended one of these pencils

Firstly this is NOT a pencil but tool for marking surfaces through deep holes.
You dont get your Ferrari to pop to the shops unless you have money to burn.
Like I said its a tool and works really well for the jobs its intended for.
The graphite lasts ages if used correctly and the holder have a built in sharpener to bring you back to a super fine point for precise marking.
So in short, if you have to make a long reach mark (for instance on a shower wall post bracket or through a 4x2 stud) then this is the pencil that does the job.
It works like a traditional mechanical pencil where you click for length and then press and hold the button and push the length back in for safe storage.

Not so sure it is more cost effective again a typical pencil. Been using it for 3 days now. Good points, seems to last a while before having to sharpen it. It has a sharpener attached to it.
Bad point is that the lid does not fit on the back of it so you have to hunt around to find where you left it.
Another point, I dropped it once (so far) and approx 15mm of the lead snapped off, which had to be thrown away.
Overall - not so sure a normal pencil is not just easier and cheaper

I wasnt sure what to expect from this tool but Im surprised with how much Im using is not only to mark out for depth drilling holes but just in general use like writing and marking out timbers for cutting its handy that it incorporates a sharpener for the graphite end and you can also get refills for it so its safe to say its a cracking piece of kit and worth buying for any trades person

Fed up with the old pencil and Stanley blade. These pencils are awesome with thick lead but can be sharpened to a point with the inbuilt sharpener.

Was about to buy one when a message came through saying get one. Nice pencil. Lead lasts long. And it stays in the pocket. Nice little pencil

Was just about to order one of these when I got a message asking to try one.
Brilliant bit of kit, no more need to get the Stanley out to cut my pencil.

If anyone is anything like me and somehow manages to loose or break every single pencil you've ever owned then this is for you. I was apprehensive at first because of the price, not that its super expensive, but because you could buy a multipack of decent regular pencils for the price. However after using this most days for the best part of a year I dont think I could go back!

My issue of loosing and aimlessly searching pockets for pencils is over! The holster clips to the outside of my trousers and I can reach and find it whenever. I have found over time it doesn't 'click' into the holster anymore but it has never fallen out. The inbuilt sharpener is handy, and will always be better then the traditional stanley knife method!

The led it comes with is fine and relatively cheap to replace.

All this and the fact the end is slimline for them tight to reach or deeper holes!

Brilliant bit of kit. Comes with its own holster that clips to my pocket, the pencil doesn't slip out of its holder, the graphite is really easy to replace. It being slimline helps mark deep holes which I normally can't get with a pencil. Would highly recommend.

This is the better of the pencil I have tried, I like the sharpener in the holster so that you don't need to take it off your belt on trousers to sharpen the tip, the balance and feel is just right and like using this to as a normal pencil not just a deep hole pencil the leads last and also seem to take the odd drop without snapping and spare leads are quiet cheap and with the holster you put it back and not lose it to so easily as a normal pencil

1st time using tracer pencil, I have seen this over the last 12 months in wholesalers but never thought it would be that beneficial over the old pencil,how wrong was I.
strong lead,ultra slim also Comes with a sharpener at its holster and i put it to the test instantly for extract fans as some fixing holes have a deep recess, it was spot on. should of got 1 sooner , replacement lead can be sorted easily also

Having recently ordering this to give it a try i have to say as far as markers go it is right up there the fact that it is pencil instead of pen is a big benefit I think, I cant say I have too many complaints about it other than keep catching the green top to make the led pop out more which is getting on my nerves. On the whole though having one of these in your pocket is really handy and definitely worthwhile getting

5 stars all round for this little gem Literally can write on anything great sleek design with handy built in sharpener that doesnt make the holster bulky Always a pain when you misplace your pencil but with this holster its always clipped in your pocket so no more disappearing pencils The pencil lead seems to last forever and sharpening takes hardly any of it while giving it a sharp finish Really handy for going through tights gaps due to its slim design for marking

Now this is a handy piece of kit.
Its always frustrating when your pencil just wont quite mark the wall behind a bracket or the like.
This takes away the issue by having a long thin body which is not much wider than the lead.
The lead pumps out as it wears down.
It comes in a sheath which attaches nicely to workwear and also contains a tiny pencil sharpener to ensure you always have a precise point.
In short.
This is one of those items you didnt know you needed but now wouldnt be without

Straight out of the packet this little marking pencil is ready to go, all you do to extend the lead is press down on the green top until you reach desired length. The added little sharpener on the belt clip is a great addition for sharpening the lead to a fine point, in addition I must add that the lead is quite soft so down require sharpening if you want a fine marking line, also when at full length be sure to mark slow and steady as the lead is fragile and can snap easily. Build quality is 4/5 for that reason and that only but leads are cheap and easy to replace. I also like the holster that you can attach to your belt or pocket for easy storage and access when on site. Ease of use is self explanatory 5/5. Features 5/5 for storage, the built in sharpener and easy length adjustment is superb. Value for money 5/5 so far the cheapest on the market but be sure to shop around for additional leads as you can get them cheaper than what the same manufacturer sells them for (not sure of quality from other brands on that point)
Great little tool for all trades and the DIYer.

Marking holes in IP rated electrical back boxes can be a pain, as the fixing holes are deeply recessed and the recesses are too small for a marker. These pencils work a treat, with the narrow tip easily fitting the recess. The lead leaves a clear marks on steel, plastic, tiles and paint. To protect the tip from damage I use masking tape on brickwork, and it works well. The clip on the holder is strong, and the inbuilt sharpener is a nice touch. Yellow leads are also available. This has replaced my marker pen as my marking tool of choice, as the lead retracts nicely converting it back to a standard pencil.

At last a marker that is robust enough and able to clip on to clothes. The built in sharpener is a great touch and the hard plastic holster allows it to take knocks without breaking the lead. Plus it also leaves your ear free of the pencil. Perhaps one thing would be if it was a more visible colour. Overall Excellent

Been using the pen for a while and decided to give the pencil a try. It is a great addition marks easily great for marking shower profiles and the built in sharpener is a brilliant feature. Does not feel cheap and stands up to a bit of punishment.

Great addition for any tradesmen toolbox! This marker is build to last, has a good feel to it, it is easy to use and change leads, also its got a sharpener build into a holster. Holster has a handy pocket/belt clip

Been using the tracer deep hole marker for a few days now. Very robust and helpful product for marking deep holes through base units, shower screens etc. Ive been using the marxman green chalk marker for the last year which I saw on dragons den. This does the same job and works just as well and should last longer with the strong lead. The inbuilt sharpener is a great feature along with the holster/belt clip. Very impressed

What a great idea. The pencil is very stong, i was worried the lead would be week but its alot thincker than you expect. It says you can mark up to 4inch but it does go a little further. Great product brilliant idea wish i bought one sooner

Great bit of kit , lead is hard so you can put some pressure on it , great feature with the sharpener built into the cap , build quality feels strong and perfect to get into those awkward places

Perfect for what I need. I can actually mark any hole I need without sharpening a normal pencil to a foot long lead. Would highly recommend to all trades. Especially the ones that can read and write.

Brilliant piece of kit. Thanks to the design, I can't see any way that this would fall out of your pocket, which is a pain with normal pencils. All very solid, I can't see any clips snapping and what have you with this. With a sharpener mounted on the thing itself, you'll never be stuck up a ladder with a broken tip. There's a massive amount of lead to get through so you'll never be caught short without lead in your pencil!

Perfect for every job you come across. Having the thick lead makes it a lot more durable compared to a bog stand pencil. It also extends so you can reach into smaller spaces.

Brilliant idea having a sharpener built into the holder, it is one of the best simple ideas for a long while with replacement refills as well to keep down the cost, excellent!

I got this as a product to test from tool talk and I have used the tracer system before
I have already bought the combo set with the deep hole pencil and the pen marker
I do like the design of the pencil that has a built in pencil sharpener on the side and the clip hold the holder firmly in place
The only issue I have is the pencil itself is designed to go in and out of the holder easily but sometimes it is too easy and I have lost some of my expensive pencils this way
I did contact tracer who sent me a replacement and I do hope they address this issue later on
There are other brands out there that do the similar job and you can get replacement leads of various colours too
I do love my tracer pencils and pen set and find it better than just a standard pencil as I have lost various pencil sharpeners.
I work recommend this but look out for deals on them and the other Tracer products

Got this as a freebie from tooltalk and I have to say I did not know I needed it until I got it only had it a day or 2 and it is already come in handy more than once and makes life a lot easier I would suggest getting one Deffo a one for the trades.
